First let me say Frank is amazing , he always remembers me and and my husband when we come in as well as what we order before we can even ask , he provides great customer service . We have been going to El Toro faithfully since they opened however I’ve had two recent not too pleasant experiences. My husband and I went in person and ate for taco Tuesday earlier this month , everything was great , I got shrimp tacos and they had so much shrimp they were hard to even close , I was very satisfied. The following Tuesday we ordered some for carry out , I was very disappointed to get home and discover that one of my tacos literally only had two shrimp, the other had four which is a fair portion , but two shrimp for a whole taco ? I let that slide because as I said we frequent this place often, I chalked it up to a mistake . Two weeks after that I was given an El Toro gift card for my birthday . My friend and I usually go to El Toro every year for our birthdays to celebrate(as I said we love this place) but she was unable to make it this time so she bought one , just for $10 , I love their dip and my friend wanted to cover me buying that for my birthday . I placed a pick up order last week and went in to use my gift card and the gentlemen told me it had a zero balance , I asked him to get a manager and the owner of the store came to the front(Frank was off this day, unfortunately) and I explained that my gift card wasn’t working . She tried it as well and stated that it had a zero balance and I asked if I had a receipt to which I explained I didn’t because it was a gift . I did however show her the slip cover for the gift card that it was given to me in and the dollar amount written on it , and when I showed her she looked around to the front of the register because there were blank gift cards sitting there within reach, she was looking to see if there was also slip covers as well which there were not , which to me was her way of insinuating that I may have just picked one up and was pretending it was purchased ( this is all over $10 btw , but it’s the principle) I have never in my life stolen anything nor do I need to . She eventually discounted the item so I didn’t have to pay after I got my friend on the phone who originally bought the card , however she blamed my friend for not getting a receipt. She made it seem as if there was no possibility the employee didn’t scan the gift card correctly thus it not loading. This is all while other customers were watching which is embarrassing, The experience left a bad taste in my mouth and I told my husband we need to try out one of the other two Mexican spots in town .
