Placed an order online for a set time for two burritos. The food itself was AMAZING. The quantity for the price was also super and I would go back. I will say that the burritos are not handhelds. These are a fork/knife/plate kind of burrito so if you’re trying to eat in the car like we were, logistically it was tricky. Star was lost on the service. We went in to pick up and order and three employees were standing at the desk and none offered a greeting or to help. The person who walked in after us for dine-in was sat before we got our carry out order.

Hands down the best Mexican restaurant I have ever eaten at and I’ve tried many! From the moment you walk in, the atmosphere and service are outstanding. The chips and salsa are absolutely amazing and the perfect start to the meal. The chicken and shrimp fajitas were exceptional, full of flavor, fresh, and cooked perfectly. And the smoked wings? Finger-licking good! What truly sets this place apart is the service. Every waiter and employee stays engaged, attentive, and on top of everything, making sure guests have an incredible experience from beginning to end. You can tell the staff genuinely cares about the customers and takes pride in what they do. A huge thank you and appreciation to all the employees at this establishment for providing such top-tier food and service. I will definitely be back again and again!

I chose this restaurant because it said it had Tex-mex and homemade flour tortillas. To start with, it took forever to get our drinks and our server seemed really shy and always like three feet behind us. Our appetizer queso and shared lunch for the 2 of us— birria fajitas —arrived at the same time. We had more than enough food for my son and I—las we were flying home so couldn’t get a to go box. Before that we had chips and a very small bowl of half salsa/half pico de gallo. It was good but I wasn’t sure why the bowl wasn’t bigger or the portion larger. The queso was good but nothing mind blowing for $10. The birria fajitas were a great deal for the lunch special of $16 but the meat was a bit underwhelming. Otherwise, it came with flavorful rice and beans and the traditions fast fixings. Also as a native Texan I gravitate to any place having homemade flour tortillas and these were good but not great. The atmosphere is nice, especially outside. Overall I don’t know that I would go back unless I had money to burn Also ChatGPT said parking would be easy but as an out of towner it took me a while to find a place even on a rainy day

This will be a long review, I apologize in advance. Yesterday, on Cinco de Mayo I attempted to have dinner at Guapo's. I'd expected a long wait, approximately one hour or so for a table. I was completely caught off guard by the block party celebration I saw once I arrived to the area. My friends and I got in line to put our names on the waitlist. We didn't wait too long, approx. 20 min to add our names. I was told for a table outside the wait was 1hr 45 min but indoors the wait was approx. 50 min so naturally I added my party of five for an indoor table. I received a confirmation text at 5:01 pm. My friends and I went ahead and grabbed some drinks and enjoyed the live music and beautiful weather. About an hour passed, so I went to check on our table. When I checked, our wait had gone up to two hours from the 50 min we were originally quoted. One of my friends was starving but the line for the Tacos express was really long, so she grabbed food from another restaurant. At 6:30pm I checked our place in line and found we were 81st in line. At that point we'd pretty much given up the idea that we'd be getting a table. We stayed in the area but ended up seeking food from another establishment. At around 9:15 pm I saw that we were 43rd on the waitlist and was eventually kicked off the waitlist. I'm assuming, the waitlist had been closed. After 4 hours we were never seated, I understand it was Cinco de Mayo and a huge turn out for the restaurant however, this could have been handled so much better. I attend this location often and will continue to do so, I'm just a little disappointed with how things went yesterday. Perhaps in the future extra tables can be added to the courtyard or to the street if possible since the street is blocked off. Maybe only allow patrons 90 min at their table to ensure servers are able to turn tables and seat more guests.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Outstanding Meal at Guapo Cocina in Shirlington We had an absolutely fantastic dinner at Guapo Cocina in Shirlington. From start to finish, the food was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully prepared—easily one of the best meals we’ve had in the area. Starters The meal began with light, crisp chips and a smoky, flavorful salsa that immediately set the tone. We also ordered the guacamole, which was exceptional—creamy, bright, and perfectly seasoned. It may be the best we’ve ever had. We requested the jalapeños on the side, and the kitchen accommodated without hesitation. Entrées Every entrée was a standout: • Camarones Tequila: Truly outstanding. Seven huge shrimp, perfectly cooked, served in a light, delicious tequila cream sauce with red peppers and green onions. The dish was beautifully presented around a mound of white rice. Rich, balanced, and memorable. • Chicken Texano: Two large chicken breasts smothered in sautéed onions, served with plantains that were excellent—not greasy at all. A hearty, satisfying dish with great flavor. • Chicken & Steak Fajitas: High‑quality proteins cooked perfectly. The steak was tender and flavorful, and the chicken was juicy. The tortillas, beans, and rice were all delicious and fresh. A classic done exceptionally well. Everything was seasoned perfectly and tasted incredibly fresh. The portions were generous—more food than we could finish. And without us asking, the staff brought out extra chips, which was a thoughtful touch. Service Service was warm, attentive, and efficient. Every request was handled easily, and the team made us feel welcome throughout the meal. Final Thoughts Guapo Cocina delivered an excellent dining experience across the board—amazing food, generous portions, and great service. We left full, happy, and already talking about our next visit. A true gem in Shirlington.
