This place was fantastic. Came up to Virginia for a work trip and my wife told me that I absolutely must try Carlyle.
It's located in a pretty cool area, loads of other places to eat. No wait on a Wednesday at 6. Service was prompt. The Carlyle Old Fashioned had a unique plum (I think that's what he said) sweetness that just worked really well.
I ordered the Bacon Cheeseburger. I've got to figure out how they did it. It just absolutely melts in your mouth. It's unlike any burger I've ever had. I hadn't eaten all day and I was barely able to finish the burger. Ordered Key Lime Pie to go which I'll be trying that out later.
My server got switched out but everything was seamless and people seem to genuinely like working there.
Definitely coming back.

This was a really great experience for Mother's Day. We have been to this restaurant many times as a family, but this time was very special man because it was a smaller group of us and everyone felt so well taken care of by the staff. Are server was attentive, thoughtful, and very easy to find. In addition, everyone there seemed to be focused in on making sure that the table and all the tables around us were taken care of. It was a group effort and that was very much appreciated. We will definitely be back we haven't been in a long time, but we will definitely be back again soon!

Caryle is shrinking its steaks!! And charging the same amount. When I wrote a letter w my discovery they ignored it. I've had too many steaks at Great American Restaurants to know they are shrinking steaks, tasteless steaks , but aren't honest enough to admit it. Deceitful is the 1st word that comes to mind!

I’ve been coming to this amazing restaurant for 15 years and it is the most consistent restaurant I’ve ever been to. The chicken paillard and Caesar salad never fail, and their receipts cannot be found anywhere else.
The chocolate waffle is one of my favorite desserts and always leaves you craving it next time.
Highly recommend this traditional and truly fair priced restaurant!

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A Wonderful Evening at The Carlyle in Shirlington
We had an outstanding experience at The Carlyle in Shirlington, and it deserves every bit of praise. We originally reserved a 7:30 PM patio table, but the weather turned unexpectedly chilly. The manager, Q, immediately stepped in and graciously found us a comfortable indoor booth. Her kindness and efficiency set the tone for the entire evening.
Food & Drinks
We started with the crab and shrimp puffs, which were a highlight of the meal—light, crunchy phyllo dough wrapped around flavorful seafood, topped with delicate phyllo strands. The accompanying sauce was subtle and delicious. The bread basket, sourced from the bakery next door, was excellent, and knowing that the bread proceeds go to charity made it even better.
Entrées
Our entrées were fresh, generous, and beautifully prepared.
• The roast chicken salad was vibrant and plentiful, with creamy goat cheese, dates, and cranberries adding great balance.
• One member of our party requested the mango chicken salad but substituted the protein for the glazed salmon—no hesitation from the kitchen at all. The salmon was moist, flavorful, and generously portioned.
• The salmon entrée came with mashed potatoes and asparagus. While the potatoes were tasty, they could have been hotter. The only small critique we shared with our wonderful server, Zach, was that the asparagus portion felt a bit skimpy.
Zach handled this perfectly—within minutes, he returned with an additional side of asparagus spears. That kind of thoughtful service is exactly what turns a first-time guest into a loyal customer.
Dessert
We finished with the white chocolate bread pudding, which arrived with a candle and whipped cream to celebrate a birthday in our group. It was more like a mini Bundt cake than a traditional bread pudding, but still enjoyable. The ice cream was delicious, though we did miss the classic moisture of a traditional bread pudding. Q stopped by again to check on us, which was a lovely touch.
Service
Both Q and Zach were exceptional—warm, attentive, and genuinely invested in making our evening special. Their hospitality elevated the entire experience.
