  There should always be at least one check out line open at all times. I love a self checkout when I have a few items, but when I’m buying $250 worth of groceries, the self check out is very inconvenient. Also, many older customers do not like, or do not know how to use self check out. As was the case when I was just there with a sweet couple next to me. There is no excuse to not have one check out lane open at all times.

  I just went to return $52 worth of groceries, unopened, purchased less than 24 hours ago with original receipt in hand and e-receipt in hand. Ivan Belkey (sp) and Julian (apparently his supervisor) both looked me up and down, looked at my receipt, did not ring anything in, and told me that they could not return my items for a full credit to my credit card that I could either accept a store credit or nothing. I asked why and they told me, "this is the policy." I asked to see the policy and they said they don't have anything to show me. I asked who Julian's supervisor was and Julian said he didn't need to answer that question. I asked why I couldn't get a refund to my credit card and they both told me because "over a certain limit, the policy is to only issue a store credit and not a refund." When I asked what the limit was, they both said " We cannot disclose this." HUH!?!?!!? I Felt like I was being punked. I called them out on not even ringing in my items and knowing how much I was returning so they then said, "ok we will ring your items up and only then, can we tell you the limit." I have never had such an experience at this store. We are local to fort hunt and shop here regularly I am SHOCKED. I will NEVER go back to this location. I went over the little safeway located at Fort Hunt Rd, talked to Asia the store manager and within seconds she said, sure no problem we will return your items. Her and her colleage Alexia were beyond helpful and got my items returned swiftly, no questions asked. DO not shop at Safeway in Belle View shopping center unless you want to have a bizzare and ridiculous customer experience and feel discriminated against. Also, I have the entire interaction on video if any Safeway store manager wants to reach out to me.

  Normally discounts work, but not this time. A certain brand of chips were discounted at 2.49 when bought in multiples of 3 (I purchased 3). Unfortunately, it wasn't applied. I prefer not dealing with wait times and people with in-house mistakes so I left paying full (marked up) price. There also needs to be an option to remove items if they're no longer wanted due to circumstances like this.

  They need a whole new staff, so you’re telling me only 2 people work here? I came in to return groceries, stood at the customer service desk for 10 mins, nobody acknowledged me, said nothing until I went over to the person IVIN was standing at self-checkout. I asked, “Are you the only one working in the store?” He said, “Me and the person that’s here at self-checkout. I’m covering for him, okay? So I need a check-out. He says, “Okay, I’ll get to you when I can.” Also, he came out of his own mouth and said it’s only him and the other guy there working, so if you’ll only have 2 people that can work, y’all need to close earlier than 12. You can’t accommodate for the customers’ needs with 2 people and a grocery store full of people. Customer service was poor.
