As the hometown of George Washington, Alexandria and its surrounding areas is no stranger to history. Washington, D.C., beautiful Mount Vernon, Arlington Cemetery and the National Masonic Temple are all just minutes away. But despite these famous landmarks and all of the legends that have traveled the waters of the Potomac River, Chart House Alexandria is still the sight to see. Hands down, Chart House is the best river view restaurant in the city. Whether dining outside on the patio or indoors, our seafood restaurant gives gorgeous panoramic views of the waterfront and the sparkling city. Before or after their visit, guests have easy access to famous Old Town sites such as Robert E. Lee's boyhood home, George Washington's Townhouse and Market Square, one of the oldest market places in the whole country. But that doesn't keep diners from spending their time at Chart House. Our Sunday brunch ranks among some of the best in Alexandria

My party of 10 unexpectedly ended up at Chart house late in the evening on a friday night. The host George was great on the phone and was able to accommodate us quickly. He asked if we were celebrating anything and had a birthday menu on the table. George even wrote a little birthday card! 💌#sweet. Our waitress Jayla was nice and answered all of our many questions. Service seemed a bit slow for it to be fairly empty so late in the evening but we also weren't really ready. Food was ok. Everyone seemed to enjoy the calamari and the Mango avacodo shrimp apps. I even asked for just the veggies from the calamari as app alternate as they were able to adjust it for me. It was great. Wish I had more of that. Steaks were good. Crab cakes were just ok. I didnt care for the crab dip. It was a little salty and was giving me heart burn but my cousin enjoyed his.🤷🏾‍♀️ There were 4 different versions of salman and 2 were a hit but the Harrisa was not. We had a decent experience. That suggested tip is interesting. Like we def plan to tip but we didn't like that it's there and says suggested, however, it's not because its automatically added. Let me decide!

My husband and I visited the bar here recently during happy hour. A bartender named Ikey took really great care of us! He was so personable and made us feel right at home. He suggested we try the calamari which was great and we both got a mango mojito which was excellent! He kept checking in with us to make sure we were truly happy with our choices and enjoying ourselves. That goes above and beyond great service, you could tell he actually cares about our experience. We ended up having a great conversation with him and it was refreshing to meet a bartender who is so warm and inviting. It was a truly delightful experience and we will definitely be back soon! The food was great, the drinks were great and the service was exceptional!

I don’t usually write bad reviews, but I’m extremely disappointed with this experience that I feel I have to share it...I took my mom here for her birthday expecting a special, high-end seafood dinner, and unfortunately, it was just terrible. I ordered the trout, and it was honestly some of the worst I’ve ever had. It completely lacked seasoning and had a very strong, fishy taste like it was old. My brother ordered a filet medium, and it came out well done with absolutely NO pink. I couldn’t believe a restaurant at this price point could get something as basic as a steak this wrong! Then my mom’s plate arrived, and we were shocked by how it looked... the presentation was underwhelming and honestly looked like a kids’ meal. Nowhere near what we expected from a restaurant like Chart House. The server was okay, but nothing about the service or experience felt special or memorable. I’m especially upset because I wanted to give my mom a wonderful birthday experience, and instead we left feeling like we wasted our money because for the prices and reputation, I expected so much more. Honestly, we could have gone to Outback Steakhouse and had a better meal. The best part was the view on the water.

Bizarre place. Beautiful location expensive nice food and service was just awful. Group of ten. Took ten miniatures to get water. Our apps came out before drinks. Had to check on some apps because seemingly weren’t placed in system. We decided for bottles of wine because clearly bartender was struggling (although restaurant wasn’t busy, we were there before 6pm). Food was taking a while then all of a sudden given bread after sitting for long time but then we didn’t have plates for it. Then like 5 mins later food came out. The wine we had to hunt down. They didn’t clear plates. Hardly filled water. We did get dessert. That meal took over three hours which was getting a bit uncomfortable especially towards end. Took a while to pay bill. Honestly I wouldn’t go back nor recommend but I know people in the party would..I just think service matters. Waiter was friendly just not competent I guess. Too much money for experience like that.

Took the hubs to Chart House for a midday brunch, and the whole outing felt like a perfect summer snapshot. The Potomac was shimmering, boats drifting lazily across the water, sunshine everywhere. We grabbed a table under the pergola outside—chef’s kiss seating. 🌟 Service Our server, Bob, was an absolute gem. He seated us right away, sprinkled in a few jokes, and carried a witty, satirical charm that kept us entertained. His timing and personality added a lovely lift to the afternoon. 🍽️ Food Highlights • Egg White Omelette — My pick, because I’m a vegetable girl through and through. It arrived big, fluffy, and beautifully done. The vegetables were served on the side, lightly marinated in pesto—bright, fresh, and flavorful.• Heads up: If you want cheese inside, ask for it. The omelette is more of a “blank canvas,” with all the veggies plated separately. Still delicious, just not your traditional stuffed omelette. • Chicken & Cheddar Waffle — Hubs went bold. The dish came with a deep‑fried boiled egg, a well‑seasoned piece of chicken, and a cornmeal waffle that was crispy, enhanced, and made heavenly with honey butter. A fun, unexpected combination that really worked. • Salad Bar — We added this as an entrée to round things out. Nicely stocked with fruits, veggies, and the usual staples. Simple, but a welcome complement to the meal. 🥖 The One Thing Missing A crunchy slice of toast alongside the omelette would’ve sealed the deal. Just that little bit of texture to complete the plate. 🌞 Final Thoughts Between the weather, the ambience, and the food, it was a wonderful outing from start to finish. I’d do it again in a heartbeat.
