Loved NYC Magnolia and had high hopes for the chance to enjoy again in Utah. I stopped in to get sweet treats for a friend recovering from surgery. Tried the pudding and several cupcakes. As many others have stated, the pudding was runny. Wondering if the wide range of reviews is due to inconsistencies with staff. Our cupcakes did not seem fresh baked which is absolutely what you would expect from the price.

Highly recommend Magnolia Bakery! Their banana pudding was exactly as I remember it from New York and their cupcakes were excellent - particularly their Coconut Cupcake (unfortunately NOT available every day.) The store was VERY clean and the staff were friendly and fast. Prices were very similar to other local bakeries and we're looking forward to ordering a cake later in the month.

I was really excited when Magnolia Bakery opened in Salt Lake City because my dad regularly orders from the New York location for holidays, and their banana pudding has always been one of my favorites. Unfortunately, the SLC location has been a huge disappointment. The banana pudding here doesn’t even come close to the consistency and quality of the New York version. The pudding in NY is thick, fluffy, creamy, and packed with flavor. The one I’ve received in SLC was very runny, had very little of the whipped cream mixture, and just didn’t have the same texture or taste I’ve come to expect from Magnolia Bakery. Another issue was the bananas. On both occasions, they appeared old and overripe, which negatively affected both the taste and overall freshness of the pudding. Fresh bananas are a huge part of what makes banana pudding great, and these definitely did not seem fresh. I also tried the Strawberry Crumble Banana Pudding, and it was not good at all. It had a very strange taste, and there were no crumbles whatsoever despite them being prominently featured in the advertised photos. It looked nothing like what was advertised. In fact, the overall presentation of the desserts at this location is nowhere near what you receive when ordering directly from New York. The difference in quality, appearance, and consistency is very noticeable. The cookies were good, but that’s honestly about it. Even then, they weren’t quite as soft and fresh as the ones I’ve had from New York. I thought maybe I had just caught them on a bad day, so I gave the SLC location a second chance. Unfortunately, it was the same experience both times. I thought maybe I was being too critical until I started reading reviews from other customers and realized many people were noticing the same issues. I really wanted to love this location and support it, but based on my experiences, the banana pudding simply doesn’t compare to the original New York bakery. As disappointing as it is, I’ll just continue having my dad order from the New York location for holidays because the quality, flavor, consistency, and presentation are far superior. Hopefully this location can improve its consistency, ingredient quality, and presentation because right now it’s not living up to the Magnolia Bakery name. Also workers are friendly but are super young & inexperienced. I ordered 2 puddings & a cookie and 1 cupcake on my 1st trip. The second time I ordered 3 different sizes of puddings. 2 baked banana pudding cookies and a cupcake and had to literally ask for a bag smh which should be common sense. The ladies just look at you and move very slow. Me and my family won’t be back unfortunately

We lived in NYC for several years and this was one of our favorite bakeries for a sweet treat. Sad to say that while the decor and menu is reminiscent of the OG, it didn’t quite live up to previous experience. The Bananna pudding was slightly runny and the wafers were still crunchy. If you’ve been to the original location, you know they’re supposed to be soft, almost cake-like. We also got another old favorite, the red velvet cheesecake, and something was off with the flavor. It almost tasted sour. Hopefully they work out some of the kinks, we’re still glad to have them in Utah.

Such a lovely store. The staff greeted us with smiles and politely and helpfully answered availability questions. The indoor seating looked welcoming. We chose an outdoor table as did other parties. Parking was free and easily found. We visited Magnolia after 8:30pm on a Tuesday night. We only waited for two other customers though there was a steady flow of patrons. The original banana pudding was worth the drive across the valley from the far west side. The lemon bar had a supportive, thin, tender crust and was delightfully tart. We liked the firm, substantive yet light texture of the blueberry cheesecake with delicious topping. We also purchased the red velvet cheesecake and a chocolate cupcake with chocolate frosting to be enjoyed later.
