Tru Jamaica Restaurant was absolutely incredible! When I say the food was the best, I truly mean it. This is real, authentic Jamaican food prepared with so much flavor, care, and love. From the very first bite, I could tell that the food was freshly made and seasoned perfectly. Nothing tasted bland, rushed, or overly processed. Every dish had that wonderful homemade quality that makes you feel as though you are enjoying a meal prepared in someone’s kitchen in Jamaica.
The Rasta pasta and rice platter was absolutely delicious. The vegetables were fresh, colorful, and cooked perfectly, while the rice was full of authentic Jamaican flavor. Everything complemented each other beautifully, and the portions were generous and satisfying. The Jamaican patties were also amazing, the pastry was golden, flaky, and perfectly baked, with a flavorful filling that made every bite enjoyable. Even the coconut drink was refreshing and paired wonderfully with the meal. The sweet potato cornbread was the best as well!
The service was excellent, and the atmosphere was warm, welcoming, and comfortable. You can tell that the people here take pride in their food and genuinely want every customer to have a wonderful experience. It is not always easy to find a restaurant that delivers outstanding food, friendly service, and an authentic cultural experience all at once, but Tru Jamaica Restaurant does exactly that.
I cannot say enough good things about this restaurant. This was not simply a good meal, it was one of those memorable dining experiences that leaves you thinking about the food long after you have finished eating. If you are looking for truly authentic Jamaican cuisine with bold flavors, fresh ingredients, generous portions, and food that tastes like it was prepared with love, this is the place to visit. Tru Jamaica has definitely earned its name because everything about the food felt genuine and authentic. I will absolutely be returning and recommending this restaurant to everyone I know. Easily five stars for the food, service, and atmosphere!

My first time in Waco (8/12/26) and I found this hidden gem. Tru Jamaica Restaurant deserves all the stars! I had the jerk chicken plate with rice & peas, plantains, and cabbage. The Jerk chicken (spice level spicy) was the star of this dish! I was happily surprised to see that the chicken pieces were thigh meat, my favorite. The jerk bbq sauce was the best I’ve had and sauced on top just right for my taste, not too saucy.
The rice had the perfect touch (for my taste) of coconut and was perfectly cooked. Plantains were perfect, Sorrel & Ginger slapped, curry chicken patty slapped, and to top it off the customer service was on point (something I’ve never been able to say about any Jamaican restaurant). If I get off work in time I’m going back today (8/13/26)!

Best Jamaican cuisine I've had the pleasure of eating! Not only was the food outstanding, the service was exceptional and the atmosphere was perfect. I loved the jerk chicken and coconut rice, and the Rasta Pasta had such a rich and spicy flavor that I will be going back for. Oh and don't worry about leaving hungry; the portions are enough to get to take some home! Check this place out if you haven't and support local business!!

Our family really enjoyed this place! We usually eat a lot of Asian food, so this was our first time trying Jamaican jerk flavors. We were pleasantly surprised by how much we liked them — the jerk chicken and jerk shrimp were both excellent and really suited our taste.
The oxtail was delicious, and the curry lamb was also very good. Everything was flavorful and well-seasoned.
We also really enjoyed the soursop drink. The owner was very thoughtful and gave us a few samples to try different flavors before choosing our drinks, which was a really nice touch.
Great food, unique flavors, and very friendly service. Highly recommend! We’ll definitely be back next time we’re in Waco! 👍

Me, my wife and my 4 kids were passing through Waco and found this hidden gem. We tried a few items on the menu and we enjoyed everything. We had the chicken and beef meat pies as an appetizer. Goat curry, oxtail, snapper, Rasta pasta, pork chop, jerk wings, rice and peas, Mac and cheese, and fried plantains. Our favorites were the goat curry and oxtails with the rice and peas.
We’ve had Jamaican and Caribbean food before and the only really new item for us was the Rasta pasta which was interesting and delicious. I suggest eating it with a spoon so you get some of the broth with each bite as it is delicious.
The inside of the restaurant was very nice and has been recently remodeled after a fire. The restaurant is located in a mostly residential area so you probably wouldn’t stumble upon it by chance.
We were offered some samples of the juices and the kids liked the soursop so we got them three Togo cups. I didn’t care for the ginger spiced hibiscus but that’s because I’m not a fan of ginger.
