Roberto’s Taco Shop is one of our go-to spots! Being from California, this place gives me that little taste of home I’ve been missing. The food is consistently delicious, authentic, and exactly what I want when I’m craving a good California-style taco shop.
We come here all the time and have never been disappointed. Great food, generous portions, and everything always hits the spot. So happy to have a Roberto’s here in Texas — it definitely feels like a little piece of California close to home!
Stick to The Drive- Thru !!
My husband and I have been driving by Roberto’s for several months hoping to eat inside the restaurant. We saw they were open and stopped in on 8/15/26. While the food was very good, we should have gotten it to go. The dining area was about 80 degrees when we got there, and I sweated the whole time. There were only 6 tables in a very large dining dpace and they were all occupied , so we sat on a low windowsill waiting for our order (!?) At 15 minutes I went to the counter to ask for our drinks, as it was 101 degrees outside and by now every bit of 85 degrees inside. Our food was ready in about 20 minutes, and we found a table.
The food was very good, but we paid $40 for 2 people to sweat through our meal. Stick to the drive-thru and you should be OK.

Theee things stood out for us.
1. It was pretty dirty in the dining area and it was very hot. If it's dirty where everyone sees, what is it like where we can't?!
2. The menu on the board above the register says the number 19 is a crispy and soft taco.. the number 19 online is carne asada. The menu says to order by number so we ended up getting the wrong thing for both of our orders. I wish I had taken a picture of that menu. I tried to call, but there was no answer.
3. The rice wasn't fresh. My gf called them Rubber Bullets.
As some who moved to TX from San Diego, CA, I am very familiar with Roberto's and when I heard there was one nearby, I drove 90 miles just to see if it's the same as the shops in SoCal.
Like the previous reviewer, I agree the wait is quite long. They only offer drive-thru and I don't think I waited 30 minutes, but it was incredibly long.
That being said, we ordered rolled tacos, bean & cheese burrito, a chicken burrito and a carne asada quesadilla. The short is with the exception of the rolled tacos, everything was a good as I remember it from SoCal. The bean & cheese burritos were epic. Big, full of the best refried beans you will ever taste and wrapped in the freshest tortillas you will ever eat. They are massive so bring your appetite. It's odd how a bean & cheese burrito is so hard to find here in TX.
Carne asada is also something I can rarely find here in TX and when I do, I don't know the type of meat they use or how they cook it, but it's always disappointing. But the carne asada at Roberto's is the real deal. Again, the quesadilla was large and the tortilla is super fresh.
I will disagree on the salsa review by the other person. Maybe it was just a bad day but we had the red sauce and it was burning our lips and mouth for quite some time after eating. Not a bad thing, but definitely spicy.
The rolled tacos, also something you cannot find here in TX, were okay, but not as good as they could be. The corn tortillas tasted stale and they only serve them in a order of three. Back in SoCal, you can usually get orders of six or eight. These came with guacamole and cheese which is okay, but typically you would get them with lettuce, cheese, guacamole and sour cream.
The food was hot when we got it and we received plenty of hot sauce and napkins. There seems to be an area for seating but they just haven't finished it(?) Maybe in the future they will have indoor seating and more people working to handle the customers faster.
My biggest complaint is the location. I drove from Austin to try this place out and I can't understand how they pick a location such as this instead of a much bigger market in Austin. It seems to me they are missing out on incredible opportunity as there are no drive thru Mexican restaurants in Austin and there are so many Californians in Austin. I was at a business in Austin and the person helping me noticed my San Diego area code and that is how I found out about this place. Hopefully in the very near future, they will bring one to the Austin area. It was worth the 90 mile drive but that isn't something I would do on a regular basis.

Being from So. Cal I was so excited to try this place. Since opening we’ve gone a handful of times. The food is very inconsistent. The first visit the rice was basically white rice with no flavor and the rolled tacos were hard, to the point I thought I may break a tooth. We decided to give them another try and got a soft taco and chile relleno burrito and that burrito was the best thing I’ve ever eaten in my life. How is it possible to get the worst and best meal of my life at the same place?
After our most recent visit last night we decided to not visit and waste our money for a while. I will post a pic of the difference between a $5 hard taco and a $5 soft taco. Notice I didn’t say crunchy? There was nothing crunchy about that hard little lump. I had to take both hands and break in half, thankfully my dog liked it and it didn’t fully go to waste. It was shredded beef, the soft taco was carnitas and the meat tasted “off”. There was no pinpointing it, it just didn’t taste right. And didn’t taste like the carnitas we got on the first taco we tried.
I’ll wait until I visit back home to get my fix, this isn’t it.
