  We went to Udipi Cafe in Sugar Land last night and honestly wish we hadn’t. Right when we arrived, they were cleaning a table right in front of us using their bare hands on gross old food leftovers and mess. It was so unhygienic we asked to sit somewhere else. The lady who was running the show was very rude and flat-out said no at first, then finally offered another table. We placed a simple order: one appetizer and two dosas. Nothing complicated. South Indian food like dosas is supposed to be quick to prepare on a hot griddle. People who sat down after us had their food on the table within 5–10 minutes. We waited 20 minutes and asked - “it’s coming soon.” Checked again at 25 minutes - same thing. At 30 minutes we asked them to check and got the exact same “it’s coming” response. By that point the entire restaurant had been served ahead of us. We waited a few more minutes and finally just left without ever getting our food or any real explanation. The combination of poor hygiene, extremely slow service on basic items, and rude management made this a very disappointing experience. For a South Indian vegetarian spot, this level of delay is ridiculous. Won’t be returning.

  Was seared almost immediately, and food arrived pretty quick after ordering off the menu, though they also offer a buffet at times. Food was excellent and would recommend giving this place a visit.

  I hate to write this but I’m very disappointed in the place. I ordered a vada and when I took a a few bites into it I noticed I have been chewing on something rubbery. What I pulled out of my mouth was a large chuck of someone’s rubber gloves. I was in shock. I could’ve swallowed that. I immediately called over the lady at the front. She came by and simply just apologized to me. She had no shock on her face. If this was my establishment I would be extremely embarrassed and give the customers the whole meal for free. All she did was just replaced the vada. I didn’t want to make it a big issue since there were other customers eating. But I wanted to share my honest experience. Overall the food was just mediocre for South Indian food. I won’t be going back there again.

  Excellent food, we do come quite often and always enjoy the food and the atmosphere.
