  We loved saltgrass! We were in town for work from Chicago and New York. Michelle, our server, was delightful! She recommended 2 desserts and we tried BOTH! Run to get the carrot cake AND pumpkin cheesecake. The wedge salad was fab too! The ribs were fall off the bone 10/10.

  We are reviewed many restaurants, and I've consistently ranked this one as near the top as the atmosphere food and service for above standard in fact far above standard, it's well worth the money for the experience that you will have when you go there, you will leave feeling satisfied

  Tonight, my husband and I enjoyed dinner at Saltgrass Steak House in San Marcos, and let me tell you, Michelle was our HOSTESS WITH THE MOSTEST! 💯🙌🏾🙏🏽 From the moment she greeted us with her happy smile, Michelle was attentive, detailed, and on point with every request. Y’all know I LOVE my onions! 💯🙌🏾😁 And when I asked for a WHOLE sliced onion, I meant the WHOLE onion not a sliver! And guess what? Michell made sure I got exactly what I asked for! Now THAT’S service! The food was delicious! I had the redfish topped with shrimp and lump crab, along with a fully loaded baked potato. My husband enjoyed a filet steak and baked potato, and we BOTH had wedge salads. Everything made for a wonderful dinner! Michelle, thank you for making our dinner date extra special! Great food is one thing, but outstanding customer service makes the experience unforgettable. Saltgrass, you have a gem in Michelle We’ll be back! When the food is good, the service is exceptional, and your husband is enjoying the moment right alongside you… THAT’S A WIN-WIN

  I don’t normally go out of my way to write reviews like this, but Jeremiah deserves his flowers. I came into Saltgrass San Marcos with my girlfriend, and I’ll admit, I had already talked the place up beforehand. So naturally, there was a little bit of pressure on me. I wanted to be able to sit back at the end of the night and say, “See? I told you this place was good.” I know I was taking my chances here. The absolute last thing I wanted was to be sitting there wondering why I chose the place in the first place. Jeremiah made sure that was never even a thought. From the moment he introduced himself, he made us feel genuinely welcomed. Not the scripted, “Hi, welcome in blah blah blah" kind of welcomed either. He had personality, confidence, humor, and this natural way of making the table feel comfortable almost immediately. Within the first few minutes, I knew I could relax because we were in good hands. And selfishly, Jeremiah made me look GOOD for picking Saltgrass that night. Our steaks came out cooked to medium rare perfection. Exactly what you hope for when you order a steak, beautiful cook from edge to edge, juicy, tender, and one of those moments where you cut into it and immediately know the kitchen nailed it. Then came my girlfriend trying to decide on a drink, which can sometimes turn into a whole event by itself because she is incredibly indecisive. Jeremiah didn’t just start throwing random recommendations at her. He actually listened to what she liked, asked questions I've never even thought about asking, and used his drink knowledge to guide her toward something she would genuinely enjoy. He hit the bullseye. The look on her face after that first sip told me everything I needed to know. She loved it. That’s the part of Jeremiah’s service I appreciated most. He paid attention. He was attentive without hovering, funny without forcing it, knowledgeable without sounding rehearsed, and somehow always seemed to show up right when we needed him. It felt effortless. And apparently Jeremiah did his job a little too well, because afterward I could not stop talking about the place. I found myself telling friends and peers about the steaks, the drinks, the experience, and especially the service. When a server leaves enough of an impression that you start doing free advertising for the restaurant afterward, I think that says more than plenty. Jeremiah, seriously, thank you for taking such good care of us and for helping make our night what it was. We will absolutely be back.

  Very disappointing experience, especially considering the price of the meal. My fiancé ordered the Porterhouse steak cooked medium. What arrived was still practically mooing—it was extremely rare and raw inside. On top of that, there was a significant amount of fat on the steak, leaving even less of it that was actually enjoyable to eat. He ate a couple of bites before finally asking for it to be cooked more. That alone says a lot, because he never sends food back and almost never complains. It simply isn’t his nature. I ordered Brussels sprouts with my dinner, but they didn’t arrive until I was already halfway through my meal. We also ordered a piece of carrot cake to take home when we received our ticket. Once we got home and opened it, the cake was dry and tasted like it had been sitting around for a couple of days. When you’re paying Saltgrass prices, you should be able to expect your steak to be cooked as ordered, a quality cut of meat, your sides to arrive with your meal, and your dessert to be fresh. This was our first visit to this particular location, and it will be our last. I’ve eaten at other Saltgrass restaurants and have always received excellent service and quality food, so I know they are capable of much better. Unfortunately, this location completely missed the mark. Update: To the Saltgrass owner that provided the link for further reviews, San Marcos Saltgrass is not on the drop down menu as a choice. I left further review under Austin Saltgrass, managers name I stated the store was located in San Marcos.
