I have been a frequent customer at this Chipotle location and have eaten there almost every day at times because I genuinely enjoy Chipotle. I’ve always considered this location to be nice, clean, and one of my preferred places to eat.
Unfortunately, during my most recent visit, I had an extremely disturbing experience. While eating my bowl, I noticed what appeared to be a larva/bug in my food. At first, I wasn’t sure what I was looking at, so I used my fork to pick it up and place it on a napkin. Once I looked at it closely, I could clearly see that it was a bug with what appeared to be a face. I immediately spit out the food I had in my mouth and felt extremely nauseated. I was so disgusted that I could not finish my meal. I honestly felt like I was going to vomit, but the bathroom was locked and I did not know the code, so I had to stand there and wait for the feeling to pass.
My husband also lost his appetite after seeing what was in my bowl and did not eat his food either. We calmly and politely informed the manager, who apologized and stated that something like this had never happened before. My husband told her that she could wait until the busy line had died down before processing the refund.
After the line slowed down, the manager came back out and apologized again. However, only my bowl was refunded. My husband’s food was not refunded, despite the fact that he was unable to eat it after seeing the larva in my meal.
We also asked whether an incident report would be completed, and the manager said that one would be written. However, what concerned me even more was that after the restaurant was made aware of the larva, the food remained on the serving line. I did not see the food being removed, discarded, or replaced with fresh food. This was concerning because if the larva came from the food or surrounding food-handling area, there could potentially have been a larger issue, and customers continued being served from the same food on the line.
I have included pictures of what I found in my bowl. I understand that mistakes can happen, but I was very disappointed with how the situation was handled afterward. As someone who regularly visits Chipotle and genuinely enjoys the food, this experience was extremely upsetting and has made me question the food safety practices at this location.
