Brenner’s on the River Walk was a great experience. I was lucky enough to try both the ribeye and the filet mignon, and both were excellent. The steaks were reasonably priced, full of flavor, and cooked exactly how I asked—medium well plus, and still tender and juicy. That can be hard to get right, but they nailed it.
Also, the sliced A5 Japanese Wagyu is an absolute must. Rich, buttery, and incredibly flavorful—it was easily one of the highlights of the meal.
Excellent food, great quality, and a beautiful River Walk setting. Definitely a place I’d come back to for a really good steak.

Highly recommend visiting Brenner’s on the River Walk. My Wife and I met her family there for dinner while we were In town. The food was delicious and the service was excellent! There was a convention going on while we were there and a dinner party so it was loud but still would definitely go back! You will not regret going!

I don’t mind paying for exceptional dining, but I do mind spending $850 on an experience that falls far below the standards of a premier steakhouse.
We were initially offered only bar or patio seating. While I understand restaurants have seating policies, it was frustrating to see other guests dressed just as casually—or even more casually—seated in the main dining room. Throughout the evening, we saw sleeveless shirts, flip-flops, swim shorts, and children playing on the stairs. This inconsistency left us questioning the policy and stuck at a cramped table where our meal barely fit.
We ordered oysters, crab cakes, wagyu appetizers, a $175 porterhouse, salmon, shrimp, and other entrées. The table became so crowded that we had to constantly shuffle dishes just to make space.
The $100 sirloin, ordered medium-rare, was undercooked and ultimately sent back after much of it went uneaten. What stood out most wasn't the mistake—it was that no one from the staff or management asked why it was being returned or checked on our table afterward. At this price point, that level of follow-up should be standard.
The biggest disappointment was the lack of product knowledge. I asked whether the beef was dry-aged, where it was sourced, and how it was prepared—our server couldn’t answer any of those questions. When I inquired if the steak was prepared sous vide, I had to explain the technique myself. The kitchen’s follow-up—asking if I meant the steak had been frozen—was baffling for a restaurant charging premium steakhouse prices.
Despite an $850 check, not once did a manager visit our table to inquire about our meal or address the issues we encountered. Service was also rushed, as if turning the table was more important than creating a memorable dining experience.
What made this even more disappointing was that just two days earlier, we dined at F.X. Buckley in Dublin, where the difference was remarkable. Every question about the beef was answered confidently, the staff understood their product, the steaks were perfectly executed, and the hospitality matched the price.
Premium prices create premium expectations. Unfortunately, Brenner’s delivered neither the food nor the service worthy of an $850 dining experience.

For starters this is a little bit of a pricey place. With what they charge, there should have been a better musician to stay with. We got stuck in the open booth area which honestly I don't think should even be in there. At least have chairs with a back to them. We only saw our waitress when drinks were about empty. I went with the wild game ribeye the waitress hyped up. When I saw the check I understood why she hyped it up. 120 dollars for steak and mashed potatoes. That will quickly put a dent in your vacation. The steak was cooked perfectly, the taste I will say was amazing. The sauce on that, no idea what it was but made that dish. Wife had a filet, cooked perfectly and very tender as well as very tasty. I cant complain about the food itself. Great tasting meals worth the price? Absolutely not. Table and chairs completely inappropriate for what we paid. Musician and atmosphere was in my opinion garbage for what you paid. If i ever come back to san antonio I will definitely not come back. I wouldn't suggest it to anyone unless you have the money to burn.

Booked for My Mother's Birthday. Host was excellent and had a great sense of humor. Server was excellent. He knew his Scotches and gave great insight into the pastry chef and food. Parents split the Lobster Mac and Cheese. Portion was HUGE. It was excellent. It was not overly cheesy and the lobster really was the star of the show. I am an obvious foodie so had to test taste everything. The Lobster bisque was good, not stellar like the other dishes. Large Asparagus was great and cleanly done. The Creme Brulee was light as air and was presented in unique long dish. Very attractive and parents loved it too. The Chocolate Diva was again...light as air. Don't know how she did that (The pastry chef). I have never had a brulee that light. Ended with a Cappucino. What a Wonderful early evening! If I lived here, I would be here probably once a week. The Prices are VERY reasonable compared to the same standard of food in Boulder Colorado and New York City. I would have been charged about $170 for the same food and the Scotch in those places. and I walked away at $103. I did a double take at the bill and could not believe how much food we had for the money!!! Again...the portions are LARGE. Do try this restaurant. You will not be dissappointed. We were seated inside upstairs and the AC was perfect. It was a wicked hot day.
