  My first and last time here! The person in the picture was very rude and unprofessional, to build some context i was paying for the remaining amount of my tab from my date. I was mentioning to the cash register girl that my date with the girl i was with went a little side ways when we spoke about politics and religion and thats it. Not any position or any specific faith just that it WAS discussed, when the guy in the picture said "we dont talk about religion,politics or money at the bar" I replied "im not" but if I was, what of it. He then said im ganna ask you to not talk about it. I then replied "Or what?" While I have my to babies with me, my 3 & 2 year old. He became hostile and said ill have yall removed if you do. Anyway I spoke with the manager and even I couldn't believe what he said, basically "yeah if you said anything inappropriate that made my staff member feel uncomfortable then well have to ask you to leave. I told him nothing inappropriate was said to him or towards him, I mentioned to the manager that he simply interrupted my conversation with the cash register girl only to give his unsolicited opinion on the matter. I asked if this is policy, then where is the sign for it to be enforced that I have Limited speech when I enter the premises? Guess what it doesn't exist cause its not policy and would be an infringement on my freedom of speech. To the sorry staff member that has sensitive ears. If any political view or religious believe threatens you then dont leave your safe space home, feel free to indoctrinate those within your home like your 9 year old to have a victim mentality such as yourself.

  My son loved the playground. We were comfortable sitting outside in the covered area wit fans. Very good service and drinks. Smoking area in the back. Not sure happy hours but it was still going between 3-4 pm on a Sunday.

  In the battle of San Antonio humidity vs. my sanity, Backyard on Broadway officially took home the trophy today. We rolled in with the kids during what felt like a 100% humidity swamp-fest. The staff was on it from the jump—they strategically maneuvered us to a prime patio spot directly in front of a high-powered fan. It was the kind of tactical precision usually reserved for specialized rescue missions; they saved my kids from overheating and saved me from a total meltdown. Our waitress, Larissa, was a total legend. She was incredibly friendly, attentive, and somehow stayed cheerful while the rest of us were basically turning into human puddles. If you want great food, a cool breeze in a heatwave, and service that actually makes you feel like a human (and not just another table), this is the spot. 10/10 — would survive the Texas summer here again."

  I came to Backyard on Broadway expecting a casual meal and left spiritually transformed by churros. I’m pretty sure the churros here should qualify as a controlled substance because I have not stopped thinking about them for 48 hours. If happiness had a flavor, it would be cinnamon sugar and whatever dark magic they’re using in that kitchen. The food? Unreal. Every bite tasted like the chef personally challenged Gordon Ramsay to mutual combat. The atmosphere? Absolute elite-tier vibes. It’s like someone took a backyard party, added amazing food, drinks, and people who actually look happy to be alive. And then there’s Larissa. Listen carefully, world: Larissa is not a waitress. Larissa is a hospitality athlete. A customer service wizard. A beacon of hope in a dark and confusing universe. She somehow managed to be funny, fast, attentive, and psychic all at the same time. I’m convinced she knew what I wanted before I did. At one point I think she refilled my drink using telepathy. If you’re in San Antonio and don’t go here, respectfully, what are you even doing with your life? 10/10. Would fight a small raccoon for another plate of churros.

  I recently visited Backyard on Broadway and ordered the loaded BBQ pork nachos. I’ll start with the positives—the portion size was decent and the pork itself was fine. However, the overall dish was not what I expected, mainly because the queso had a noticeable wine flavor. That might work in a fondue-style dish, but for nachos it felt out of place and threw off the entire flavor. The bigger issue was the service. As soon as my bartender realized I wasn’t ordering a drink and was just there for food, the level of attention noticeably dropped. I wasn’t checked on, and it took quite a while for my food to come out. It got to the point where the cook ended up bringing my order instead, which says a lot. It left me feeling like I was being judged based on what I ordered rather than being treated like a paying customer. I had originally planned to tip generously, but the lack of service made that hard to justify. Overall, between the unusual queso choice and the disappointing service, it wasn’t a great experience. I wouldn’t say it was terrible, but it definitely didn’t live up to expectations, and I’d think twice before coming back.
