This was my first visit. I'd seen this place on TikTok and was curious to try it. This place serves Nigerian style food if I'm not mistaken. We got the Steak Suya Plate. It was amazing! The meat was well cooked and had a delicious smokey flavor. The rice was well seasoned and a tad spicy. The fried plantains are awesome to balance out the flavors and the Cobb corn was so good, very tender and seasoned well. The restaurant is small so its not great for huge groups but a small family or even just a couple will find it easy to dine in. The ordering experience was interesting as it's a self-serve kiosk tablet. There are two. While it's not a traditional counter ordering there is a person up front to help you. The lady who helped us out was so sweet and funny she helped explain what the dish was like and gave suggestions. She was very attentive to all the guests that were there. The restaurant itself is very nice inside though there really isn't much going on so it's quiet and simple, and modern with some lovely artwork on the walls. I was very impressed by the food and I will definitely be coming back here!

Went to AfroTex Grill today and man… this place is special. As someone from south Louisiana, this was my first time trying jollof rice and I instantly understood why people compare it to jambalaya. The flavors, the spice, the depth… it felt familiar in the best way possible. You can really taste the connection between West African food and Louisiana culture. It honestly made me appreciate where so much of our food roots come from.
I had the steak suya plate with jollof rice, suya corn, and plantains and everything was on point. The steak was packed with flavor, the jollof was incredible, the little corn on the cob pieces were addictive, and the plantains were cooked perfectly and balanced the whole plate out.
On top of the food, the hospitality stood out just as much. Tee treated me extremely well and made me feel welcomed from the moment I walked in.
This feels like one of those places San Antonio is going to fall in love with. AfroTex somehow feels like an African-inspired Chipotle or Cava concept, but with way more soul and quality behind it. Definitely coming back.

Walked in hungry, left blessed, that’s the move,
Order at the counter, then you sit and groove.
Flavor so crazy, man, I can’t compare,
Every bite had me noddin’ like, “Yeah, that’s rare.”
Spice on the menu, you can level up,
For the bold ones only, let the hotter one erupt.
Steak came through like a champion in a ring,
One bite hit hard, had me feeling like the king.
Wings on point, man, they superb and clean,
Crunch so nice with the taste so mean.
Rice and plantain look just like the pic,
Taste so legit, every bite hit quick.
Came in hungry, now I’m fully satisfied,
Five-star energy, no need to even decide.
Try something new, trust me, don’t regret,
Best meal I’ve had, that’s a real respect.
Translation: The restaurant offers order and sit down style service and the food is just fantastic. I have nothing to even compare to the flavors I experienced . The spicy level can be chosen for those more daring there is a hotter level. The steak phenomenal. The wings superb and delicious. The rice and plantain was just as good as they look in the pictures, came in hungry, left satisfied. Easy 5 stars. Come try something new you wont regret it.
Holy moly! I was searching for African food while visiting San Antonio, and based on the reviews and location, I knew I had to try AfroTex Grill. I’m so glad I did — now I’m just craving more and sad I’ll have to wait until my next trip back to town.
Before we even got through the door, we were welcomed by the most infectious smile and warm greeting from the woman behind the counter. I immediately noticed the modern, minimalist vibe, the beautiful African art on the walls, and the music that tied it all together perfectly.
The employee helped my friend and me decide what to order by making recommendations, and we gladly took her advice. After we sat down, our food arrived in less than five minutes.
We absolutely devoured the wing and steak suya platters. The seasoning was spot on, and while I’m usually not big on sauces, every single one complemented the meat perfectly. The house sauce with the steak was especially amazing. Sooo good!
The plantains, jollof rice, and corn on the cob were hitting too. (I’m literally drooling thinking about this food again.) The portions were huge — we honestly could’ve shared one plate — but I’m glad we had leftovers to take home.
I truly have no complaints about this spot and can’t wait to come back and try more. My only regret is that I didn’t order another full plate to go! Lesson learned. 🤣
Do yourself a favor and check out this gem. And spread the word, because everyone should know about AfroTex Grill!

AfroTex on Babcock Road is officially the new spot in town to try. The food was absolutely delicious and packed with amazing African flavors from start to finish.
The hubs and I tried the Chicken Bowl and the Steak Suya Plate, and both were incredible. The meat was soft, tender, and full of flavor. The jollof rice was perfectly seasoned, and the plantains, corn, and sweet peppers tied everything together beautifully. Every bite was satisfying.
Our hostess was also wonderful and helped us order from the computer menu. I appreciated that she took the time to make sure my sauces were placed on the side due to my ulcers and sensitivity to spicy food and she swapped me to ranch :) That level of care and customer service really was appreciated :)
The food came out fast, portions were generous, the price for the bowl was around $15 and the plate $25 and overall it was such a great experience. I truly hope they never change a thing in the future. Too many restaurants start off strong and later begin cutting portions, changing ingredients, or raising prices while lowering quality. AfroTex feels special, and I can't wait to come back again soon and try the salmon! It's such a vibe and I felt like the Motherland was calling me home !
Highly recommended
