Since 1950, Whataburger has proudly served a bigger, better burger. It all started when a young entrepreneur named Harmon Dobson had a bold idea: to serve a burger so big that it took two hands to hold, and so good that after a single bite customers couldn't help but exclaim, “What a burger!” He named his humble burger stand in Corpus Christi, Texas, “Whataburger.” Over six decades later, we're still family owned and operated. Each and every Whataburger® is still made to order. We still use 100% pure beef and serve it on a big, toasted five-inch bun. And now, as we proudly serve burgers, chicken, salads and breakfast at more than 800 Whataburger locations across the country, that first burger stand is still close to our hearts.
I ordered the three-piece chicken strip with a gravy, large fry and large Dr Pepper. They gave me Coke instead of Dr Pepper. I only had two strips in it and I got a small fry instead of the large fry and the gravy container wasn’t even filled up halfway. Not to mention the wait time was absolutely awfulI’m extremely disappointed by this this ruined my night and caused my autistic child to have an entire breakdown, but I’m too tired to have to go back and deal with them again

I ordered a Kids Meal hamburger and simply asked to add lettuce. I was told that wasn't allowed and that the only option was to purchase a Junior Hamburger instead, which cost nearly $3 more.
What makes this especially disappointing is that I previously worked for Whataburger and managed several locations in Arizona. I understand food costs, menu structures, inventory control, and operational procedures. I also understand that part of the reason for limiting modifications on Kids Meals is to discourage adults from ordering lower-priced kids' menu items instead of regular menu items and then beefing them up with free toppings.
However, there has to be some room for common sense. I wasn't asking for a different burger, extra patties, or a complete rebuild of the menu item. I was asking for a single piece of lettuce on an otherwise plain/dry hamburger that was being ordered as part of a Kids Meal...for a 10 year old.
The manager was a little argumentative but not terribly so. My issue is with the policy itself. Charging nearly $3 more because a customer wants lettuce on a child's hamburger feels excessive and unnecessarily rigid.
As someone who managed Whataburger restaurants myself, I've always respected the company's reputation for customer service and flexibility. That's why this experience was so surprising. Policies should protect the business, but they should also make sense to customers. In this case, the policy seems to accomplish neither.
The food was good, and the employees were courteous. But refusing to add lettuce to a Kids Meal hamburger while requiring customers to purchase a much more expensive sandwich instead is difficult to justify. Sometimes a piece of lettuce should just be a piece of lettuce.
Oh. And for crying out loud, bring Chorizo Taquitos to San Angelo TX already
