I recently visited the Pappadeaux on Central Expressway in Richardson, and I had high hopes for their well-known oysters, especially since a friend recommended them. I knew the restaurant closed at 9 p.m., so I called ahead to place my order and arrived around 8:52 or 8:53. Once there, I sat down and waited. Unfortunately, no one greeted me or acknowledged me for quite a while. After about 15 minutes, I finally asked the barback, Rdha if there was a bartender available. He fetched Zion, the bartender, who helped me order a drink while I waited for my oysters. While Zion initially took my order, he barely checked on me afterward, so I found myself chasing him down for any service. My first batch of oysters, which I’d ordered for takeout, finally came. Zion did let me order another batch, but even then, I had to ask for silverware multiple times, as none was provided by default. Throughout my time there, I felt ignored unless I proactively asked for something. At one point, I wanted a second drink, but Zion was slow again. When I asked the barback, he said he couldn’t make drinks—only then did Zion overhear and make it. The manager eventually came over, comped the oysters, and was kind, which I appreciated. However, the overall service was disappointing. I don’t think I’ve ever had to work that hard just to be noticed. While I understand it was late, every customer should get the same level of care.
