Two nights ago, I placed a mobile order and realized when I got home that several items were missing. I called the restaurant, explained what happened, and the manager I spoke with was very kind. I was told that because of the mistake, they would replace my entire 8-count grilled nugget meal with a lemonade. I did not ask for the entire meal to be replaced—it was offered to me. I was also told I had seven days to redeem it and that all I needed to do was provide my name because the information would be in the system. Tonight, I returned to redeem what had been offered. I mentioned it in the drive-thru and was told they could not find it, but that the team at the window would know I was coming. Once I reached the window, however, I ended up explaining the entire situation again to one employee, then a manager, and then another manager. I was repeatedly asked who I spoke with, whether I actually called, and what I had been told. I even offered to provide my original order number because I thought perhaps the notes were attached to it, but no one seemed interested in looking it up that way. Ultimately, they did provide the complimentary meal, and I appreciate that. However, by that point, I felt as though I had been put in a position where I had to prove that I was telling the truth about something that the restaurant itself had offered me. It felt less like, “We found the issue and we’re honoring what was promised,” and more like, “We can’t verify this, but just give it to her.” That was uncomfortable and honestly embarrassing, especially while my children were sitting in the car waiting through the entire interaction. I would never try to take advantage of this restaurant or any business. I regularly purchase food here, and paying for a meal was never the issue. Had I not been offered a complimentary replacement, I would not have expected one. My concern is with the process. If a manager promises a guest a complimentary meal because of an order error and gives that guest a specific timeframe and instructions for redeeming it, there needs to be a reliable way for the next team to verify that information. A customer should not have to repeat the same story to three different people and feel questioned or belittled simply for redeeming something the restaurant offered. I still enjoy this location, but tonight’s experience definitely left me feeling differently. I hope management improves the system for documenting complimentary replacements so another customer isn’t made to feel this way.
