I went in on 06/27/26 and purchased flanken ribs planning to cook them today. The moment I opened the package, I was hit with a strong, foul odor, definitely not something you expect from meat you just bought. When I took a closer look, there were visible spots on the meat that were clearly not normal oxidation. Concerned and disgusted, I called the store and was told to bring it back in. So I drove back because apparently buying spoiled meat also comes with a bonus trip and wasted gas. When I got to customer service, I stood there waiting while the employees finished their conversation, completely ignoring me. Once I was finally acknowledged, I explained the issue. The employee didn’t even bother to open the bag or look at the meat, even she found it disgusting. She asked what item it was on the receipt. No concern, no inspection, no apology. Just a refund and done. Beef isn’t cheap, and neither is my time or gas. The absolute bare minimum would have been a simple apology or some acknowledgment of the inconvenience and the fact that selling questionable meat could actually make someone sick. Needless to say, I won’t be buying anything from the meat department again.

6-14-2026 Are we a cashless society now??? I now have to drive to the other HEB across town to buy 1 bag of cat food because the fast lanes self checkout don’t take cash. All the other lanes are backed up down the aisles. It’s super packed. I just watched a lady in front of me with a whole carry of groceries get a slip because she was paying partly in cash and was being sent to a register with a super long line: they wouldn’t redo the self register so she can pay in cash. Pretty sad you get punished for paying in cash. I live around the corner like 2 minutes from this HEB. Now I’m about to drive 10 minutes to the other HEB or next town over just so I can be in and out in 5 minutes or less and pay in cash. Do better. Accept cash at all registers. There’s a bunch of us that still pay in cash.

This store is terrible. They let dogs run loose in the store and say there is nothing they can do about it. These are Not service dogs. Employees should care about customers.

H-E-B in Odessa was a convenient grocery stop with a strong selection and a clean, organized setup. I liked being able to pick up regular groceries along with deli items, pharmacy needs, and other extras in one place. The store had a busy feel, but it was still easy enough to move around and find what I needed. Curbside pickup and delivery are helpful options, especially on a packed schedule. Overall, it felt like a dependable grocery store with fair prices and plenty of choices.
