  Cace’s is a Longview staple! Be sure and get the croutons and cheese. They are so addictive and delicious! This is a great spot to stop when you’re downtown for lunch. Great service and even better food!

  My husband and I stopped here on our journey through Texas, expecting a nice home cooked meal at an establishment that’s been serving folks since 1949. Well, I can definitely say that it was home cooked but that’s about all I can say for it. The meal started with fried shrimp which was actually rather good. However I knew disaster was to come when I witnessed one of their caterers pack up a container of seafood gumbo for the road. A quick google search, could tell you that the shrimp in that gumbo would go bad in an hour or two without proper refrigeration of which there was none. Shortly after it was my turn to face this gumbo’s wrath, if you could call it gumbo that is. First off there were no identifying features to say that it was gumbo. It had a mud like texture. There was not one vegetable in the bowl. There were only two shrimp and I seriously doubt that any spice was added to it. I have made and have tried many a gumbo in my time and it wouldn’t be hyperbolic of me to say that it was quite literally the worst gumbo I have ever tasted in my life. I could not help but think of the poor soul who had ordered that catered gumbo. I pray he’s still alive. This next part might shock you. They served us a blackberry pie. I am still unsure whether it was of terrestrial origin. It was the same brackish color as the gumbo and the crust was the same hue of a locust’s shell. When I stuck my fork into it, the crust completely collapsed. It tasted like cardboard. I dared not eating it further. I picked the desecrated slice apart and ate the six lonely blackberries in it. The widow of the owner came out and talked with us for awhile. She went on about how great the restaurant once was and the whole history of the establishment. She boasted of their aforementioned catering business and all of the delicacies that were being sent out to their next victims. She apologized for the unsatisfactory dessert and promised that it would be taken off of the bill. The cherry on top of this experience is that we were still charged for it. The one redeeming quality was that the staff was exceedingly attentive and nice. Looking back on it now, I suppose that was their way of apologizing for the terrible food.

The friendly staff provides excellent service, creating a welcoming atmosphere that feels like home. Whether it's breakfast or lunch, this is a great spot for a great, satisfying meal.
