I’m writing to express my frustration about an experience I had at your location on Saturday, September 5 at approximately 2:14 PM. I purchased a sub with chips and cookies, and my bill was $19.90. When I completed the transaction, a $1.99 tip had already been automatically added to my bill, which is a 10% tip the cashier charged me. I immediately questioned the employee about it once I received my receipt because I was never given the opportunity to choose whether or not I wanted to leave a tip. The employee initially made it seem as though I had been given the option, but the tipping screen did not appear. At that point, he brought the screen up and explained that it was supposed to give me the option to tip. I told him that screen never came up on mine and that he added in his own tip. He did offer to go back and remove the tip, and I ultimately decided not to have him redo the transaction because it was only $1.99. However, that is not really the point. The issue is that the tip had already been automatically added without my consent, and I had to notice it and question it myself. What concerns me most is that if this is happening to other customers who don’t notice the additional charge, they may be unknowingly paying a tip that they never chose to leave. A customer should not have to catch an automatically added tip and then question the employee about why it was charged. I also want to be clear that the employee was otherwise nice and polite. My concern is specifically with the way the transaction was handled and, even more so, the lack of straightforwardness when I questioned him about the charge. Had he simply explained that the system had automatically added the tip or that there was an issue with the tipping screen, I would have been much less frustrated. I understand that tipping has become common in many service businesses, and I am personally more than happy to tip when I am dining at a full-service restaurant and receiving table service. However, at a fast-food restaurant such as Subway, I typically do not choose to tip, just as I generally would not tip at other fast-food establishments. Regardless of whether a customer chooses to tip, that decision should belong to the customer. My concern is therefore not about the $1.99 itself. It is about the principle of automatically taking additional money from a customer’s payment and presenting the tipping option only after the transaction has already been completed once they notice.. I would appreciate it if management would look into whether this was an isolated issue with the payment system or whether employees are intentionally adding tips before customers are given the opportunity to make their own selection. If this is happening to other customers, I believe it needs to be addressed. You should not have to give yourself a tip from a customer’s money. The customer should always be the one making that decision.

If I could give more stars, I would this place rocks, they always get your order right when you put extra on the app. Orders, they actually put the extra in there. And if you ask for something on the side, they actually do it, the guy's name is Alex. He's been there basically his whole life. He knows how to make a sandwich and he knows how to treat the guest right if you're looking for a great sandwich, check out this Subway on Stella link, ask for Alex.
