24-hours spot for hearty breakfast combos, comfort food, coffee & Southern dishes in spacious digs. Dot serves up mom's favorites, made from scratch every day. A tempting array of homemade desserts rivals grandma's Sunday best.
Food was excellent. The biscuits are amazing. Everything was hot a fresh. Just perfect on the food. Service was decent but a little slow. And I noticed it was not just my waitress either. So maybe not a wait staff issue but possibly a slow kitchen issue. But the food was worth the wait. The atmosphere was very laid back and casual. Just what I wanted. Also the prices are reasonable.

Usually come on the weekends before it gets crowded. Was craving breakfast one evening and to my surprise it was empty. To my other surprise there were plenty of servers standing around and no one came to my table. Don’t know if I will back. Left a bad taste in my mouth.

Dot Coffee Shop is definitely one of the best diner-style breakfast spots in Houston. I was really impressed with the quality of the food and will definitely be coming back.
I highly recommend the fried cheese appetizer. It’s basically mozzarella sticks, but honestly some of the best I’ve had. Definitely get them with ranch for dipping. The dinner rolls with butter were also excellent.
I ordered the chicken fried steak and it was very good as well. Everything tasted fresh and had that classic diner comfort food feel. I’ll definitely be back to try more items on the menu.
One thing I would recommend is making a reservation or planning ahead because this place gets packed. I ended up waiting about an hour for a table. My only real complaint was that the service was a little slow, so that could definitely use some improvement. Overall though, the food quality made the visit worth it.

Used to come here all the time with family. The breakfast is good except the hashbrowns are not good at all....its like a bake potato mashed up and they burn it on the grill to try to make it crispy but it doesn't work it just burns the potato. They should definitely bring back the shredded hashbrowns those get crispy and delicious. That is the reason we stopped coming here the hashbrowns were a deal breaker. The other food items were good.

Psst...I'm going to share a secret with you.
Burgers can be complicated. After all, often the best burgers we have are often homemade or enjoyed at family get-togethers by your sweaty tio who takes a long swig of a Modelo then pours a little over the patties sizzling on the grill. And in Houston, if it's one thing that we have an overabundance of, it's definitely burger spots. But the best burger in all of H-town? I hear the debate all the time but to me it's not even close, and it (strangely) feels like a secret but it shouldn't be: Dot Coffee Shop is the best burger in Houston.
As you can see from the pictures I included (as a note it comes with potato chips, but you can upgrade it to fries or a house salad), it doesn't particularly look like anything that you would expect to be anything beyond a serviceable burger. Sesame seed bun, thick patty, the seemingly mundane lettuce and tomato...on the surface it all looks deceptively average, quite honestly. But once you bite into it, you'll be surprised how much flavor the beef patty packs and how you can feel the juices from the tomato and lettuce blend together with it like a symphony. I've had the other trendy burger spots (Burger Joint, Trill Burger, etc.) and none of them even come close to this. The only con? I wish they offered sweet potato fries as a side option.
But I definitely recommend the burgers here, and I'm surprised that Dot doesn't get more love as a go-to burger spot. I know that it is for us. Highly recommend! All the servers are great and friendly, but we usually ask for Liz. She's awesome.
Don't sleep on this burger. Seriously, the best in the city.
