First off, the carpets in here should be ripped out and replaced with TILE. Nasty smell from it, who knows how long they have been there. Food was good but nothing crazy that blew me away, it’s mid grade Tex Mex. Flour tortillas were on the hard side and not soft. Service was good.

Was in town to visit local family (8/11/26) and we went in for dinner.
Extremely happy with the service & food.
We finished & were not rushed out.
We had not been in since they expanded (last S.A. Visit) and were not disappointed.
We will visit on our next visit!!

Lately, not so great. I have had to send back food two visits in a row. For some reason, they cannot seem to serve grilled chicken that isn’t a paper thin, dry overcooked piece. The first time - a manager remade. It was a good piece and cooked better. This second visit - it happened again. The rice was also not cooked right and hard pieces throughout. Not returning. Decided to get food elsewhere and not have it remade.

I drove up to the San Antonio, Texas area for a couple of concerts and opted to dine at El Chaparral Mexican restaurant In nearby Helotes, Texas. Dining solo, I opted to sit at the full service bar where I found out right away that their beer tap was completely out. That did not stop...i pivoted to what has to the the coldest bottle of Lone Star beer I have ever been served...loved it! While observing my general surroundings that was filled with incredibly pleased fellow diner, i occasionally glanced at their menu which is impressive. I was really pleased to see that they have fideo on the menu! You see, i grew up eating fideo at home...my mom would make it as a general staple twice to three times per week. Pro Diner tip: add the cooked ground meat and pinto beans to the dish...immediate upgrade in flavor and textures! As I enjoyed my cold cold Lone Star and fideo, I was reminded of my glory days living at home with my parents, and El Chapparral took me back in time with their delicious fideo! The place was packed so I recommend making reservations or you can take a chance and see about an open seat at the bar. Enjoy!
