Located inside the San Luis Resort Galveston, Grotto offers an Old Country trattoria ambiance & classic Italian cooking, delivering a savory menu brimming with timeless recipes. From house-made pastas to “Old World” signature dishes such as Pollo Francese, Trio Tomato Pappardelle, and Snapper Siciliano, Grotto’s food and breathtaking views make it the perfect restaurant in Galveston for Italian dining. Enjoy Grotto’s famous Peach Bellini or an extensive collection of Italian and domestic wines while overlooking the pool at The San Luis Resort.
First time dining here. The place is cramped but the atmosphere was lively and refined. The Shrimp Rocco was so delicious and I'd love to have it again soon. Our waiter was super helpful and attentive. Since its a resort it was sort of difficult to find the place but signs were clear and a random staff member helped us along. Parking is free behind the resort and we walked it without a reservation to the resort. Reservations for the restaurant is highly encouraged tho. You could bring a big group but I wouldn't recommend it due to the size. They can try to accommodate but I wouldn't recommend it. My group size was 3.

You walk into Grotto and immediately understand the assignment: this place wants to look like a polished, upscale hotel restaurant more than a traditional Italian spot. The large windows bring in loads of daylight, and the modern, clean design gives the room a bright, contemporary feel. It’s stylish without being dramatic, and everything feels curated to suggest you’re in for something special.
The menu leans into classic Italian‑American comfort with a high‑end gloss — pastas, seafood, veal, steaks — all presented with the confidence of a restaurant that knows it photographs well. And the food is good. Not great, not transportive, not “I must tell everyone about this,” just solidly competent. You can tell the kitchen knows how to execute, but you also get the sense that nothing here is trying to surprise you. And then there’s the pizza — priced like it’s been flown in from a Michelin‑starred pizzeria on the Amalfi Coast. It’s fine, but the bill will make you blink twice.
The whole experience feels intentionally elevated, which makes it even more noticeable when the flavors don’t quite match the visual promise. Grotto is a great place when you want a night out that feels upscale: a nice dinner, a celebratory vibe, a setting that makes everything seem a little more important. Just know you’re paying premium prices for an experience that’s more about atmosphere and execution than culinary revelation — especially if you order the pizza.
