I went to visit Galveston and wanted to eat something Mexican, and they recommended the coffee, which was supposed to be good, but personally I didn't like it; the coffee, which is supposed to be good, tastes like nothing.

We had a great lunch experience at Café Canela! The homemade flour tortillas were absolutely outstanding, especially with the delicious queso. I ordered the beef tinga quesadillas, and they were packed with flavor - definitely one of the best I’ve had. My wife had the carne asada bowl and thought it was excellent as well. You can really tell they use fresh ingredients because everything tasted fresh and flavorful. They brought out both a red and green salsa, and both were delicious with just the right amount of heat. The warm, homemade chips were another nice touch. The wait staff was friendly, attentive, and happy to answer questions and make recommendations. If you’re looking for fresh, authentic Mexican food made with quality ingredients, Café Canela is definitely worth a visit. We’ll definitely be back!

My first visit to Café Canela was absolutely fantastic! The Café de Olla was exceptional—rich, flavorful, and easily one of the best cups of coffee I’ve had. The chilaquiles were on another level, packed with incredible flavor, and the Pancakes Mexicanos were absolutely delicious. What made the experience even better was our waitress, Gabby Lara. She was incredibly friendly, attentive, and made us feel welcome from the moment we walked in. She truly made our first visit one to remember. We’ll definitely be back. I can’t wait to return and try more from the menu!

This place was a huge letdown. We came after seeing so many videos on TikTok, but it definitely does not live up to the hype. To start, the dining room was uncomfortably hot—they desperately need better AC. The bathrooms weren't clean, with a trash can overflowing with paper towels and toilet paper, and only the women's restroom had a changing table. The service was easily the worst part. Our waitress was incredibly rude. When I asked if the iced coffee was too sweet, she just stared at me in silence, shrugged, and snapped, "It's as sweet as you want me to make it," making me feel stupid for asking. Throughout the meal, she didn't greet us normally; she would just stand there blankly staring while waiting to take our order. She never checked on us once, we had to flag her down just to order, and our food took over 45 minutes. As for the food, it was just okay. We tried the barbacoa plate, classic burrito, and the kids' classic breakfast plate. The potatoes were gross and tasted like they had been cooked in old oil. We never saw our waitress again after the food was dropped off, so we had to ask a completely different server for our check—which still took another 20+ minutes to get. No one asked if we wanted to-go boxes, offered refills, or even told us to have a nice day. I do not recommend this place unless management fixes the AC, cleans the bathrooms, and completely overhauls their customer service.

We recently visited Cafe Canela over our vacation stay. I heard some good reviews, so decided to give it shot! The hostess was super friendly. She said there was a 15-20 min wait but ended up getting seating sooner than expected. We had breakfast and it was pretty good. They have homemade flour and corn tortillas, except for the burritos, that’s actually what my daughter ate and it was yummy, you couldn’t tell the difference of it not being homemade. My son had the French toast kids meal and that French toast was huge! However, the service was super slow. The waiter wouldn’t come back to check on us, bring to go boxes and waiting for the ticket. Also the lady at the register was NOT friendly at all. She did not speak ONE word to us when we went to pay for our food. Not even a grin, It’s almost like she rolled her eyes at us! Yikes! And then she just walked away before the transaction was completed. I guess she was just trusting me that I was going to pay. Overall, if people don’t bother you and you’re just looking for a decent meal, this spot seems okay. It may have been me because we were pushing time to go back to our hotel to check out.
