I was disturbed by what I observed connected to Ulavacharu’s storage practices. Restaurant food and supplies appeared to be stored in an unfinished area with exposed framing/insulation, clutter, and what looked like a bottle of Drano/drain cleaner placed right next to palletized food or food-service items. Door was left open for pests and rodents to enter the food storage.
That is completely unacceptable for any restaurant. Food storage should be clean, sealed, organized, and protected from chemicals and contamination risks.
I would not feel comfortable eating here unless the City of Frisco Health & Food Safety Department inspects the storage area and confirms it complies with food safety standards. This raises serious concerns about sanitation, contamination control, and basic management oversight.

Review: Disappointing Experience – Subpar Quality & Execution
Rating: 1/5
I had high expectations for a "Fine Dining" experience, but unfortunately, this meal was a complete waste of time and money. The standards here are currently well below those of a basic food truck.
• Hot & Sour Soup: Completely inedible. It was so overwhelmed by soy sauce that it lost all its intended flavor profile.
• Fish Fry & Paneer: These were mediocre at best—passable, but certainly not "Fine Dining" quality.
• Schezwan Noodles: Lacked depth and fell flat in terms of seasoning and texture.
• Mutton Hyderabadi Biryani: This was the biggest disappointment. The mutton pieces were cold and appeared to be undercooked. It was unclear when they were even prepared.
In a competitive market like Dallas, quality and consistency are everything. Based on this experience, the restaurant has a long way to go to meet the standards they are advertising.
Tried a takeaway order from Ulavacharu recently and had a mixed experience overall. The ambience inside the restaurant was nice and the place looked clean. Packaging was also done well with no spills or issues, and the food was properly cooked and fresh.
The best items from our order were definitely the Vijayawada Chicken Biryani, Venapusa Chicken, and Baby Corn Manchuria. These had good flavor and were enjoyable. The spice level was medium and balanced overall.
However, both the veg and non-veg Pachi Mirchi Pulao, Bangla Chicken, and Venapusa Gobi were pretty average and didn’t really stand out. One thing I didn’t like was that the staff highly recommended some dishes that honestly didn’t live up to the hype.
Portion sizes were decent for takeaway, and the wait time was around 45 minutes.
Some dishes were really good, but a few were disappointing compared to expectations.
If you’re looking for authentic Telugu flavors that don't treat the vegetarian menu like an afterthought, Ulavacharu in Frisco is a gem. While the name itself hints at their legendary horse gram soup (Ulavacharu), their entire veg selection is a deep dive into traditional South Indian comfort.
The Highlights
• Tiffins & Breakfast: Their Davanagere Benne Dosa is a must-try—it’s buttery, crispy, and pairs perfectly with their fresh chutneys. If you want something with a bit more kick, the Yerra Karam Dosa brings that authentic spicy onion-garlic heat that’s hard to find elsewhere.
• Veg Appetizers: For a classic starter, the Mysore Bonda is consistently fluffy on the inside with a perfect golden crunch.
• Main Course (The Biryani & Pulao): This is where Ulavacharu really shines. Their Veg Paneer Biryani isn't just "veg pulao" rebranded; it’s fragrant, layered, and the paneer is always soft. The spice levels are authentic—meaning they don't shy away from heat—so be sure to ask for "medium" if you’re sensitive!
• Unique Specialties: Don't skip the Ulavacharu Soup or the Ulavacharu-based veg entrees. The earthy, nutty flavor of the horse gram is a unique regional specialty that they execute better than most in the DFW area.
The Verdict
The ambiance is welcoming and perfect for a family dinner, and the service is generally attentive. For vegetarians who are tired of the standard "Paneer Tikka Masala" routine, Ulavacharu offers a refreshing and spicy alternative that stays true to its roots.
Must Order: Davanagere Benne Dosa, Veg Paneer Biryani, and Mysore Bonda.

Very disappointing experience. We visited on a Friday night mainly because of the weekend specials they advertised. We waited around 20 minutes for a table, which was understandable since it was busy. But after being seated and receiving the menu, we were told that most of the weekend special items were unavailable. This should have been clearly communicated when we added our name to the waitlist instead of after making us wait and sit down.
The staff explained that they were busy with catering orders, but if the restaurant cannot properly serve dine-in customers because of catering, they should either manage expectations in advance or limit dine-in seating. After that, we ordered whatever was still available on the menu and ended up waiting another 30 minutes just for pulao/rice dishes. Even worse, the rice tasted completely different from what they usually serve.
Overall, the experience felt disorganized and disappointing. Long waits, unavailable advertised items, and inconsistent food quality made the visit not worth it.
