🍗 Babe’s Chicken Dinner House - Frisco |
If you’re looking for a casual, homestyle Southern meal in Frisco, Babe’s Chicken Dinner House is definitely worth trying. I’ve been here a few times, and overall, I’ve had a good experience each time.
One thing to keep in mind is the wait time. We waited about 30 minutes as a walk-in, which seems pretty normal for Babe’s. It can get busy, but the atmosphere makes the wait feel less frustrating.
This time, we ordered fried chicken, fried catfish, and smoked chicken. The smoked chicken is definitely one of my favorites-it’s tender, flavorful, and honestly, one of the best smoked chickens I’ve had at a restaurant. The fried catfish was also very good. The fried chicken was tasty, although it was a little too salty for my personal taste.
The sides were one of the highlights of the meal. I especially loved the green beans and corn. They had that comforting, homemade flavor that goes perfectly with the chicken and fish.
I’m not really a fan of biscuits and gravy but I decided to try them anyway.
The atmosphere at Babe’s is really enjoyable. It feels homely, casual, and festive, and the surrounding area is nice for walking around afterward. It’s also a family- and kid-friendly place, so I think it works well for a relaxed family outing. Our server was friendly and provided good service.
Another big positive is the price. Considering the portions and the amount of food you get, I think the pricing is very reasonable.
One thing I would like to see improved is their takeout packaging,They give boxes for takeout orders but they don’t provide regular to-go boxes for leftovers. Instead, if you want to take leftovers home, they give you a plain plastic bag. They may have their reasons for doing this, but personally, I think providing a simple takeout container would be a much better option.
Overall, I’d give Babe’s Chicken Dinner House in Frisco 4 out of 5 stars. The smoked chicken, catfish, delicious sides, friendly service, reasonable prices, and family-friendly atmosphere make it a place I would visit again. The wait and the lack of proper takeout containers are the main things keeping it from a higher rating.

Babe’s in Frisco is a fantastic spot for a hearty, Southern-style meal. The chicken is crispy and juicy, while the chicken fried steak is hands down the best I've had. Portions are generous, the atmosphere is lively and welcoming, and the service is friendly. It’s a great place to enjoy a delicious dinner - highly recommend!
One of the most disappointing meals I've ever had!!
We came to Babe's Chicken Dinner House with a group of five because someone highly recommended it. After eating here, I'm reconsidering that person's judgment.
This was honestly some of the worst restaurant food I've ever had, and I spent years in the Army.
Between us we tried the fried chicken, chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes, corn, green beans, gravy, biscuits, and salad. It takes real talent to mess up this many basic foods at once, but Babe's managed it.
The salad was basically iceberg lettuce with a strange dressing, that looked and tasted like it had been sitting around for weeks.
The fried chicken accomplished something I didn't think was possible. It was greasy and dry at the same time. The frying oil had an old, unpleasant taste, and the breading had absolutely no seasoning. Salt? Apparently optional. Pepper? Also optional. Flavor? Definitely optional. A random YouTube fried chicken recipe would produce a much better meal.
The mashed potatoes tasted like someone mixed a little potato with huge amounts of butter and sour cream, then forgot salt existed.
The corn tasted like the cheapest canned corn from Walmart with sugar added, then cooked until it turned to mush. The green beans had the same overcooked canned texture and were oddly sweet too.
The gravy had less flavor than a packet of generic grocery store gravy mixed with water.
Against all odds, the biscuits were actually good. Unfortunately, even the honey and maple syrup tasted like cheap, heavily sweetened imitations instead of the real thing.
The restaurant was dim and loud. It wasn't very busy, but it still took a while to get anyone's attention. We did get extra biscuits after flagging someone down, which ended up being the highlight of the meal.
I didn't complain because none of this was our server's fault. She didn't cook the food.
At $20 per person, we forced ourselves to eat about half the chicken because we hated wasting the money and leaving hungry. The rest stayed on the table. If it wasn't good fresh from the fryer, it certainly wasn't coming home with us.
The biggest mystery is how this place has so many great reviews. Popeyes, KFC, Layne's, and Raising Cane's all serve better chicken, with better sides, faster, and for less money.
Maybe this is someone's idea of Southern cooking. If so, it definitely isn't ours. All five of us left wondering how one kitchen managed to ruin fried chicken, mashed potatoes, corn, green beans, gravy, and salad all in one meal.
The biscuits were good.
Everything else ranged from disappointing to nearly inedible.
I won't be back.

We visited the Frisco location tonight with friends. The food was amazing. I had the cat fish and the rest of our crew the chicken. We were all very satisfied.
They had this HokiPoki dance. My 5 years old daughter went dancing with the servers. A young gentleman with curly hair danced with my kiddo. I wish I had asked his name. He kindly danced with my shy daughter and showed her the moves.
Thank you for your patience and kindness. It goes a long way. It made us feel very blessed. This restaurant is so lucky you work for them.
God bless you! And I wish you all best 🙌🏻✨

In February of this year, I wrote a scathing review for this location. In March I got a phone call from the GM of this Restaurant, Scott Avery. A genuinely nice man and he was apologetic. He asked if we would please give this location a second chance. I said we would. So, though it took a while, the wife and I tried it again on July 22, for our 11-year Anniversary Meal. We went at 5:30pm, Dinner Time in the evening. We always do lunch but just could not do it this time. It was like night and day difference. The food quality was back to where it should have been. The service by Savannah was outstanding. I got to meet Scott Avery in person instead of just a voice on the phone. You could not have scripted a better meal or better atmosphere. The place is a little loud if you are trying to continue a normal conversation, but it is fun, clean, and the food is perfect. We both had Fried Chicken (1/2 a chicken each), and we had Fresh Brewed Iced Tea, which Savannah kept the glass full. We had so much to eat we felt like we would burst. We ordered Coconut Cream Pie and Chocolate Pie to go, and they were both great desserts. I bought a bottle of their impressive Sorghum, and I had to write an amendment or retraction, whichever way you want to name it for my previous Review. It makes me glad to do this because to be truthful, my wife and I missed the place. Now I am not sure if my friends will ever come back to try it but for sure we have this Babe’s Chicken Dinner House back on our favorite Restaurant list. Excellent job Scott and Savannah. You put the “Right Foot” forward this time.
