I wanted to share my recent experiences with this Panera Bread location. I was initially excited to find a location conveniently situated along my ride home, but unfortunately, each visit has been increasingly difficult.
The location sits directly off the CTP highway, and the highway noise makes ordering through the drive-thru challenging. Be prepared to speak loudly and repeat yourself because it can be very difficult to hear. Once you reach the pickup window, payment is usually taken quickly, but the wait for food has consistently been long; easily 20–30 minutes on my visits.
Today’s experience, however, was particularly disappointing. I ordered a salad and specifically requested the dressing on the side. I was told that would not be a problem. At the window, the employee took my payment, returned my card, and closed the window without a greeting or receipt. When my food was ready, she opened the window, extended the bag to me, and walked away without saying anything.
After checking my salad, I noticed there was dressing directly on it. I eventually got another employee’s attention and tried to explain my concern. Before I could finish, she called for the manager. When they came to the window, they both immediately pointed out that the dressing was on the side. I explained that there was also dressing directly on the salad. The manager responded that it was a “drizzle.” I understood that, but I was trying to explain that I request all dressing on the side so the salad will hold up if I need to drive home or take it to work the following day.
Unfortunately, I was repeatedly interrupted before I could explain this. The manager gestured for me to hand the salad back and said she would make another one. While I appreciate that a replacement was offered, the manner in which the situation was handled felt dismissive and begrudging rather than service-oriented. I declined the replacement, thanked her, and left.
Mistakes and misunderstandings happen, and I don’t expect perfection. What was most disappointing was the customer service response to a very simple concern. With the cost of dining out continuing to rise, I believe customers should at least expect to be treated with courtesy and professionalism.
After several difficult visits and today’s interaction, I’ve decided I will no longer patronize this location. That’s disappointing because the location is extremely convenient for my commute, but convenience simply doesn’t outweigh consistently long waits and poor customer service.
