My girlfriend and I came here on Tuesday to celebrate our two-year anniversary. I’ve been a regular diner at Ruth’s Chris right across Main Street for years, visiting 3 to 5 times a year, but we tried Del Frisco’s because they market themselves as the superior luxury option. It was an absolute joke.
First of all, the floor plan here is a suffocating cash-grab. They jam tiny, cramped tables directly into the high-traffic walkways so you are basically sitting on top of other patrons. If you want actual breathing room, a spacious layout, and an elegant atmosphere, save your money and stay inside the Hilton at Ruth's Chris.
Our server, Calvin, was perfectly pleasant, but the kitchen completely butchered the execution. We ordered the swordfish, an A5 Wagyu, and sides of au gratin potatoes and mushrooms. The sides arrived piping hot, but both of our entrees were barely lukewarm. In fact, the center of my premium Wagyu cut was completely refrigerator-cold.
At Ruth’s Chris, your steak comes out sizzling on a 500-degree plate dripping with butter. Here, the kitchen left our expensive proteins dying on a counter waiting for the vegetables to finish.
To make it worse, Calvin didn’t check on our first few bites and didn't return for nearly 10 minutes. When I finally flagged down the cold steak, the kitchen's "fine dining" fix for an A5 Wagyu was to throw it into an oven to bake it. By the time it came back out, my girlfriend was entirely finished eating. We spent our anniversary dinner eating in shifts.
To top it all off, I hadn't eaten all day to save room for this meal. On the drive to go dancing, my stomach completely turned and I spent half the night violently ill on the toilet.
Between the bill and a $100 tip, I dropped $460 here. It was a complete rip-off. If you want a hot steak and an actual luxury experience on Main Street, walk right past Del Frisco's and go straight to Ruth's Chris. Del Frisco's completely ruined our night.
