- EYEkaterina Y6 days ago2.0Unfortunately, the food was disappointing. We ordered the Itchi Salmon, Roja Roll, Lime King Roll and Hot Cali roll. The hot items arrived extremely hot without any warning, the rolls had very little noticeable fish, and the rice tasted dry. Overall, the sushi lacked flavor and did not meet our expectations. The service, however, was good. Our server was courteous and attentive, regularly refilled our water and cleared the table promptly. The location is great, especially if you’re visiting the nearby museums, but the interior could use some updating. I’ve previously visited Blue Sushi in Austin and had a much better experience, so this location unfortunately did not meet the standard I expected from the brand.

However, we waited probably 5 minutes before he arrived to even greet us. It was so obvious that the waiter at the next section over came and told us he would be with us soon. When he did arrive, after discussing my wife's birthday with us, he asked about our drinks. Mind you we still have no water and it's 105° outside. Why wouldn't the first thing you do is bring us water? We ordered edamame and my wife ordered a birthday cocktail. That's the last we saw of our waiter. To give you an idea of how slow things were with this guy, the expediter brought out are edamame and the bar brought my wife her drink while we still had no water and I had no iced tea. 15 minutes in with no drink and no one coming to check on us we decided to just leave and did not even touch my wife's drink or the edamame. I wanted to wait to at least have some water before I started eating the salty edamame but that never happened. There were lots of red flags that the staff should have picked up on. Two expeditors canvar table with appetizer and bar order, the waiter next to us realize we were not getting our service and had to tell us that he was coming, and then I thought I would give one last chance to the hostess stand at the front and I calmly told them that we were leaving because we were not getting any service. She seemed bewildered that we were walking out and didn't really know what to do. A good restaurant would have told a manager at some point what was going on with all the red flags and have it addressed but instead we had to go spend my wife's birthday dinner somewhere else. Atmosphere was okay, service was terrible, can't write the food because we didn't touch it. Managers here need to learn how to run a floor and pick up on things not going right especially when the customer is giving you signals.

Food was 10/10 as ALWAYS. This place usually has a wait and the food takes time but it’s sushi…. Of course there’s gonna be a wait time, anyone that gets sushi will know this- good sushi takes time. Beach roll was fabulous, thanks to Malachie for recommending it… it’s my new go to.
