Ok so I was speaking with Jimi ( an employee at true bbq) about the bbq here at true texas bbq. I didn't really used to know what good barbecue was until I actually learned how to smoke brisket many people love my brisket today and say how incredible it is. Being able to smoke it I now realize what is and isn't good barbecue and true Texas BBQ really insults me because they are probably better than what I make which really hurts to say. I was very impressed by how well their fat renders like butter and they have a beautiful red ring you can truly taste the smoke in everybody of everything they have here. Prices are more than fair for how genuinely good this barbecue is I highly recommend popping in and trying anything on the menu you will be impressed.

Really enjoyed to chopped beef sandwhich. Husband got the meat plate. Turkey and brisket were his choices. Turkey was moist but brisket was a little dry. Really enjoyed the baked beans as well. Jimi was so kind and generous as well. Appreciated his positivity and helped clean up and get up to go items. Thanks so much! Will be back!

I've been coming to this HEB BBQ almost weekly since it opened, so this review comes from a lot of visits, not just one.
The BBQ itself is just okay. I prefer the fatty brisket over the lean. I've never tried the chopped beef because every plate I've seen come out looks like the pre-packaged stuff from a deli case. The turkey is fine but tends to run dry. Chicken tenders are small but always fresh fried.
Where this place actually shines is the sides. The fried okra is the best I've had anywhere! It’s served piping hot with coarse salt, every single time. The sidewinder fries are great too. Potato salad, mac and cheese, and the desserts are all pretty standard, nothing special either way.
The real issue is the staff. They're either understaffed or just not the right hires, because service is consistently unhelpful. Napkin and utensil dispensers run empty and no one proactively checks. If you ask for something as simple as a cup or napkins, you're met with a look like you're being unreasonable even though every single drink order needs a cup from their staff. Staff will walk right past you at the counter without asking if you need anything. Tables are almost always dirty; thankfully they leave a bucket of cleaning wipes out so customers can wipe down their own tables.
Honestly, if it weren't for the fried okra, I probably would have stopped coming after my first visit. The food (mainly the sides) keeps me coming back, but the service needs serious work.
I’m giving 5 stars because Jimi was so helpful. The food was great, but there were exceptions that I hope they will address. Asked if the cornbread was sweet, was assured that it was not, but it was like eating cake. If you tell me it’s sweet, I won’t order it and be disappointed, simple to do. I would have ordered something else. The other things are beyond the restaurant employees control, but it’s problematic. The bathroom door is very hard to open, makes it difficult for elderly or handicapped, talk with maintenance, ask them to adjust it. Management will not allow shopping carts into the restaurant, customers park them outside the door, and some overachieving employee takes them away. If they see customers sitting inside the restaurant, and there’s a big sign that says “no carts past this entrance” then leave them alone, they’re not blocking the pathway, and there are plenty of others. Hope these simple things are addressed and corrected.

Something to say about a place where you go, and they almost remember your name. These people are great, the service, the attention, the kindness as they actually help you with some of the simplest tasks of getting your food.
Ashley - sweet and kind taking our order making sure we had everything, but then making sure we got our drink to the table. Couldn’t ask for more or better. Takes the stress out of going out to eat for people in wheelchairs. Two thumbs up lovely soil.
Ameri - once again, extremely helpful in getting our needs met. Once again, simple task of just getting the food and drinks to the table, for normal people, but greatly appreciated for those of us in wheelchairs. Hats off to ya!! 🧢
Lane - although he has left to pursue other opportunities, like most of the people always treated with a smile and a helpful order taking. Felt like I was talking with a family member versus someone taking my order. Warm greetings and helpful hands like always from these people. They train them well at HEB Texas BBQ! 🍗
