- EEExolaJun 28, 20261.0I wish I could give this cake zero stars. For my 51st birthday on June 25, I ordered my birthday cake from the Tom Thumb bakery on Northwest Highway. I’ve been ordering the same simple cake from Tom Thumb for years—usually from the Lovers Lane location, and more recently from the Northwest Highway store. The previous two cakes from this location were excellent, which made this experience even more disappointing. I ordered a simple heart-shaped cake with white cake, white buttercream frosting, a simple border, and my birthday numbers written on top. Unfortunately, what I received was nothing like what I ordered. The cake appeared to be yellow cake instead of white, it tasted stale rather than fresh, there was barely any buttercream frosting between the layers or on the outside, and the overall quality was very poor. We didn’t realize how bad it was until we cut into it at the restaurant during my birthday celebration. Everyone immediately noticed something was different. Each person took a small piece, but almost the entire cake ended up in the trash because no one wanted to eat it. Buying myself a birthday cake from Tom Thumb has become a tradition because I’ve always been able to count on the bakery for a fresh, delicious cake made exactly the way I requested. This was, without question, the worst cake I’ve ever received from any Tom Thumb bakery, and it was especially disappointing on such a special occasion. I hope this was just an isolated incident, but based on this experience, I cannot recommend this bakery location.

This store is perfectly situated near SMU and the NorthPark area, making it super easy for quick stops after campus visits or running errands around Preston Hollow. The parking lot is usually manageable compared to other spots in the city.
