Stopped by Tropical Smoothie Cafe today to pick up an açaí bowl for myself and another Doctor. The total was: $23.14. And, of course, at checkout I was asked if I wanted to leave a tip. A tip… for what, exactly? 😂 I’m genuinely curious what part of the transaction I’m supposed to be tipping for. The açaí bowl is largely pre-prepared, frozen ingredients are being assembled into a bowl, and I’m the one who drove to the restaurant, walked inside, ordered it, waited for it, and took it to work. Apparently we’ve reached the point where customers are expected to tip simply because an employee turned a screen around and gave us the opportunity to feel guilty for selecting “No Tip.” I’m all for tipping when someone actually provides exceptional service, goes above and beyond, serves me at a table, delivers my food, etc. But tipping has somehow evolved into “Would you like to pay extra because we performed the basic function of the business you’re already paying us for?” And before anyone says, “It’s optional.” Yes. I KNOW. That’s not the point. The point is how ridiculous and entitled the expectation has become. $23.14 for two açaí bowls is already plenty. I’m not adding another percentage on top because someone handed me a bowl that was already mostly prepared. At this rate, I’m expecting the self-checkout at Walmart to start asking me for a tip for scanning my own groceries. 😂 Tipping culture has officially gone completely off the rails. —— Update: Adding screenshots of their copy-paste response, which was sent to multiple users in here. I believe enough information was provided in my review. If an employee wanted to follow up on this, they could’ve done so without the need for me to send an email!

Sadly this location is the closest to me. 9 times out of 10 I’m either handed someone else’s order, the food is just made wrong, or the smoothie tastes sour or acidic like. Sometimes I’ll get the correct smoothie but then I’m handed someone else’s food. When I do get my complete order It’s almost rare for it to be correctly made and taste good. I wish they did better because this is the most convenient location for me but I’m gonna have to start going elsewhere due to the consistent disappointment.

Completely wrong order, they fixed it and gave me a cookie and extra bag of chips but the sandwich was kinda gross. I didnt finish it and I usually do. Not sure why it's also $5 more for the same meal at a different location. Probably only coming back for a smoothie.
