- KMKatie MillsJul 21, 20262.0I love HEB, but each time I have shopped at this location since moving here, I have had issues with expired food. The first issue was chicken that went bad after 2 days of buying it, and before the expiration date that was written on the package. Not a big deal, until I continually have further issues. The second issue was moldy mangos. I bought mangos that looked normal, and the second I cut into them, they were moldy inside. All 3 of the mangos I bought had gone bad, and I cut into them the day after purchasing. Then I bought some apples in a bag that looked good from a visual inspection, but upon arriving at home and opening up the bag, the apples had bruises all over and were soft and mushy, clearly gone bad. Then I bought a package of corn tortillas, wrapped in a white package (La Provedencia brand), and I brought those to a party the same day as purchasing and we opened the package and they were all completely covered in mold. And that same day I bought those tortillas, I noticed that all the ground beef in the store was set to expire that day or the next day, meaning I couldn't buy any ground beef for my meal later in the week. Not sure why they're only putting out meat that goes bad the next day... While looking through the ground beef for one that didn't go bad for a few days, I actually found several packages of ground beef that expired on July 7th. I was shopping on the 17th. That is 10 days after its expiration date and it was still on the shelf. It was browned and juice was oozing out of some of the packages from the 7th, so gross. Why is this location having such issues with maintaining proper food safety? It is absolutely ridiculous to spend so much money on groceries, just to get home and find you wasted money on food that has already gone bad and should have never been on the shelves.
