This restaurant used to be great but the quality has significantly gone down. Firstly, it is all counter service now as opposed to the prior model of table service with knowledgeable waiters and staff. Majority of the dishes we ordered came out lukewarm. The Moules Frites broth was not cooked down enough and the white wine taste was very noticeable. Drinks were carried out by guests, one guest carried both her own and other patrons drinks. We were told that items could still be coursed out but everything arrived at the same time, most items lukewarm. I strongly recommend going to Mongers down the street if you’re looking for good service and high quality food.

Bureau de Poste / French Bistro is now one of my favorite French restaurants in Austin. Actually, I don’t know of another French restaurant in Austin so we are very lucky to have this place. I met some friends here and we had cocktails, dinner, and girl talk. Everything was counter service, which is fine. I totally understand the concept of short staff and hard to find labor. I tried the duck confit cassoulet and it was delicious. The last time I had cassoulet was in Dallas about 12 years ago and I have not found it since. It comes with venison sausage and (surprise surprise) this was my first time eating venison I’m usually not a fan. The sausage was really good and the dish was so well balanced. The portion was perfect. The tequila strawberry drink was one of my favorites. It had a really intense strawberry taste, and it was made with fresh strawberries. I ordered two chocolate tarts to go and my family loved them. These tarts are very rich so I could have two bites and had to take a break! Overall I cannot wait to come back here and try more French cuisine.

Went for lunch; took a long time to get someone to take my order inside (no one else in line). A green salad was served mistakenly with bacon pieces (I’m vegetarian, and this was not in the item description), eggs Benedict and a frittata were served cool/luke warm at best. Was not served a knife with the eggs Benedict which required one. Service was poor and it took forever to get our food (this was particularly surprising because two items were even pre-made). Was served a pasta salad in a plastic container instead of on a plate. For the price, I would expect a different experience. Overpriced and underwhelming.

The atmosphere of this spot is lovely, but it's essentially the restaurant's only saving grace. The service is always disappointing, and the food is underwhelming (especially for the price). There are simply too many good restaurants in Austin to spend so much at such a deeply middling establishment.

I want this place to work so badly because the location is amazing and the vibe is cute, but I've been disappointed on every visit. The service is consistently terrible and the food is laughably overpriced ($50 for an overcooked steak? $15 for a turkey sandwich on untoasted white bread?). Its one saving grace is that the patio is very charming. If you have the time/patience to wait 1 hour for a scant pour of wine, you could have a really nice time. Otherwise, skip it!
