As a native Austinite, I want to start by saying that H-E-B is my favorite large company. I’ve shopped at H-E-B my entire life, and I genuinely believe they’re one of the best companies in Texas. Unfortunately, this location is the one I go out of my way to avoid, even though it’s the closest to my home. The biggest reason is the bag policy. Unlike nearly every other H-E-B, this store still charges customers for paper bags. I understand Austin once had a bag ordinance, but that law ended years ago. Every time I’ve asked about it, employees still tell me it’s because of the city ordinance, even though that ordinance was struck down in 2018. At this point, it’s simply this store’s policy—not a legal requirement. What makes it frustrating is spending $200–$300 on groceries and then being expected to pay extra for bags, while another H-E-B just a few minutes away provides them at no charge. I’ve even walked out carrying loose groceries because I didn’t want to pay for additional bags, and the interactions with staff over the issue have often felt dismissive or unfriendly. If this is truly a store policy, that’s your decision—but customers should be told that honestly instead of being told it’s required by law. I hope H-E-B either adopts a consistent bag policy across locations or clearly explains why this location continues to be the exception.

Love this H-E-B as it’s the closets to my house. Always grey selection of fresh produce and the store seems clean.

LOVE H.E.B. It was my first time here and the southern hospitality is a real thing!! Alison and Emma are amazing and so sweet. Also the food is delicious and the prices were great. Definitely coming back! Jayme the bartender is so sweet and can whip up a good drink. I love this place.

Super cool concept. Very different from all HEBs near me. They have some products that my area does not have as well. Although, I wouldn’t recommend coming back if you’re just visiting the area. Some of the worst customer service I’ve ever experienced at an HEB:( the young girls standing around the escalators are always super rude and unhelpful. Third time visiting with horrible service, so it warranted a review. Cashier was extremely rude, also a young woman. Super sad to say but I’m always honest. Hopefully you have a different experience. Might as well go to central market instead.

This is the most disappointing HEB! I have been an avid curbside user for years and I just moved to the area and so far have placed two orders and in both orders I have received an expired item. Last week, I received expired milk and this week I received hummus that expired five days ago. Best By June 16th and I placed this order on June 21st.
