With the recent food safety concerns and widespread recalls and hundreds of documented illnesses, there needs to be a comprehensive discussion with employees about how to appropriately handle questions from concerned customers. I receive updates about new recalls via email from food safety platforms. Today, I asked an employee about certain items in the produce section that I had seen recent new recalls for, HEB specific premade items and jalapeño related products, and he immediately became aggressive and defensive. Let me be clear, I asked questions about specific new recalls and he threw his hands up and immediately got upset with me. There was zero understanding or respect, only a completely dismissive and frustrated attitude. He kept repeating “we pulled those weeks ago”, without acknowledging any specific items or up to date recall information that I was asking about. I told him that his hostility was not necessary and that I was asking questions to keep my family safe and his answer was “you don’t have to buy anything. We handled this weekend ago.” Completely dismissing the most recent recall items and only pointing out contamination from lettuce. This is a completely unnecessary and rude way to handle valid health concerns from concerned customers. If he wasn’t up to answering my questions in a respectful and professional way, he could have simply gotten me a more qualified member of management to speak with me.

Rarely give one stars to anything. THIS HEB Deserved it. ALWAYS OUT of items I order online. ALWAYS. The macaroni and cheese with brisket is worth going into another store to get which is good because this store never has it and for some reason this is where they always go when I get a delivery so, the moral of the story is don’t order anything online from H-E-B It will come from this god-awful store

Hats off to the bakery department. We placed a customized birthday cake order on the phone. The cake was exactly how we imagined it would be. The bakers did a commendable job by keeping every detail that we asked for.

I bought a 1/2 gallon of HEB Creamy Creations ice cream and wanted a white bag (the ones they put meat in) in case it melts so it doesn't make a big mess in my re-usable bag. (I had bought other items as well and did have my own re-usable bag.) The cashier said it is their policy to only give out the bags for meat. It was 100 degrees outside so a reasonable human being with common sense would understand and be compassionate toward this request. I requested to speak to a manager and she gave me the policy spiel as well but she did give me a bag though. I guess next time I'll use produce bags for ice cream or just go across the road to Walmart where I'll start shopping more often just for the sake of not having to deal with non-sensical HEB plastic bag policies.
