Axel was really rude at the self checkout, didn’t talk to me or respond when I said hello/thank you, seemed like I was being avoided or like Axel was as too busy to provide good service. Is this what HEB visits are now on Jollyville?

I had a very disappointing experience at HEB today that made me feel uncomfortable and singled out. While waiting in line between two other customers, I noticed the cashier warmly greeted the customer in front of me by saying “hi.” However, when it became my turn, she completely skipped greeting me and my wife. My wife wears a hijab/headscarf, which clearly identifies her as Muslim. Then, immediately after us, the cashier greeted the next customer behind us in a friendly way as well. Maybe some people would see this as a small thing, but when you are the only customers ignored in line while everyone else is greeted, it feels very disrespectful and discriminatory. It gave us the impression that we were treated differently because of our appearance or religious identity. Every customer deserves to be treated with equal courtesy, professionalism, and respect regardless of religion, ethnicity, or appearance. I hope management takes this seriously and reminds employees about the importance of treating all customers fairly and respectfully.

Store employees need more training in the self checkout. My husband was there and went to buy a can of formula and the one self checkout kiosk froze when trying to complete purchase. He attempted to move to the next register to try again, when the staff member approached him. She then said excuse me sir you didn’t finish paying like he was trying to steal it and then started getting huffy with him thinking we were using a wic card and asked him to retry the wic card. It was his debit card then when she made him rescan at the register that froze and then bypassed his PIN number which we don’t like to do because then the charges hit the account much later. Then she had the audacity to say to him “see it works” after like he was trying to steal. Mind you he was there working in his work uniform and was just grabbing a can of formula to bring home so he didn’t have to make an extra stop on the way home. The entire interaction was unprofessional and unnecessary and honestly felt like he was profiled too because he is Hispanic.

This review is specifically for the bakery. I’ve ordered birthday cupcakes every year for my daughter from the Anderson Mill HEB, and it’s always been a smooth experience. Unfortunately, this location was completely different. I placed my order a week in advance and confirmed all the details, including the pickup time. When I arrived, nothing had been made. They had my order on file but hadn’t done anything with it. The employee at the counter asked if anyone had called me and kept mentioning that it would be expensive, which made no sense since no one ever contacted me or mentioned any issues beforehand. In the end, I had to settle for a pre-made cake, and there wasn’t even an offer of a discount for the inconvenience. Very disappointing experience—I’d avoid this bakery.
