Established in 1905 in Kerrville, Texas, H-E-B has grown to serve more than 150 communities in Texas and Mexico, and partners with local farmers and suppliers to bring customers fresh produce and quality meat and seafood. H-E-B strives to provide the best customer experience at everyday low prices. Our namesake H-E-B brand products are made for the love of Texans and deliver uncompromising quality. H-E-B now offers convenient curbside pickup and grocery delivery in over 250 locations.
On 5/23/26 I just needed a few items….I understand and respect H-E-B’s policies, including self-checkout item limits. My concern is not the policy itself, but how I was treated while trying to comply.
I explained multiple times that I understood the limit and would only purchase 10 items, leaving the rest behind. Instead of simply directing me to another register, multiple associates surrounded me, watched me count my items, made comments about my cart, and drew unnecessary attention to the situation. One associate laughed and asked why I came to self-checkout if I knew the policy. After I finished, I asked if they needed to count my items because I did not want to violate store policy. I was told, “Naw, you already doing what you want to do anyways. We know you had too much.” They (4 staff) stood by me laughing and cackling about this. Customers staring at me….
The entire experience felt less like customer service and more like being singled out and publicly embarrassed. I felt humiliated over ten items, like being bullied in school while employees and customers watched. I remained calm, respectful, and repeatedly explained that I was having a difficult day, but was shown very little grace. I even asked,” Sir, I am having a really hard day. I am only taking 10 items. I just need a little bit of grace”. He laughed loudly and continued to watch me.
I submitted a complaint and received only an automated response on 5/25/26. Since then, I have not received any follow-up communication. I know I am only one customer, but perhaps taking concerns like this seriously could create positive change for many others.
I have not returned to this store since that experience. Not because of the policy, but because of how I was treated.

He's prices here are a bit higher than some of the other stores. The elite shop here and I'm not in that crowd. I felt as though someone was following me around the store at every moment. Wish it wasn't like that simply because you aren't well off in my opinion ofcourse.

May 25th was yet another day in which the checker double scanned one of my items. Thankfully, I checked the receipt before we walked out of the store. He scanned the $14 package of paper towels twice. When he finished with the customer he helped after me, I showed him the error. He gave me a refund, but that was it. No, "I'm sorry". Double scanning at this store happens to me more than half the time I use a full service checkout lane. HEB places too much emphasis on "items per minute - IPM" evaluation of their checkers. I wonder if part of the evaluation process is how many times they double charge their customers? I understand all of us humans make mistakes. This has become too common of an occurrence at HEB and I believe it is the "IPM" measurements causing it. What made this occurrence particularly frustrating is the nearby checker and baggers stared at me as if I was doing something wrong pointing out the error. I doubt any of them would want to just give me $14 of their money.

I went to this Heb yesterday sort of in a rush because the baby I nanny was about to take a nap and getting tired. After loading our groceries in the car I brought the cart to the corral and grabbed my baby out of the cart and completely forgot about my little backpack that has my wallet in it! I drove all the way back to the house of the family that I work for and I called the store after getting there, realizing I didn’t have my bag. Stacy in Curbside answered and said she would personally go check to see if my bag was still there in the cart in the parking lot. She let me know her name and I told her I was almost back to the store. I arrived and she was standing outside and brought my bag to me! I just thought that was so nice and she really helped me while I was panicked. Thank you Stacy!

⚠️ RACIAL PROFILING & HARASSMENT BY ALLIED SECURITY AT HEB
My husband, a person of color, was subjected to blatant, targeted racial profiling and harassment at this HEB location yesterday.
The moment he entered, an Allied Universal Security Guard (male with long brown hair) began aggressively tailing him. To de-escalate the obvious tension and prove he was just a paying customer, my husband turned and politely asked the guard where to find an item on his phone. The guard looked shocked, refused to help, and walked away.
But it didn't stop there. This guard continued to stalk my husband throughout the entire store. Worse yet, when my husband left, this Allied Security guard followed him out to the parking lot and began taking photos of him and our personal truck. This is a massive violation of privacy and textbook intimidation.
NEXT LEGAL & CORPORATE STEPS BEING TAKEN:
Formal Civil Rights Complaint: We are filing a formal complaint for racial discrimination and harassment with corporate management and civil rights organizations.
Evidence Preservation Demand: We are formally demanding that HEB and Allied Universal preserve all security footage, internal logs, and the guard's personal device photos from 05/24/2026 around 4:15pm - 4:50 for legal review.
Corporate Compliance Investigation: A report is being escalated to HEB Corporate Compliance and Allied Universal's ethics hotline regarding unlawful profiling and predatory behavior by their contracted staff.
This was a disgusting, traumatic abuse of power. HEB, you are legally and ethically responsible for the third-party contractors you hire to police your stores.
You will absolutely be hearing from us.
