  There’s a reason everyone refers to this HEB as “the bad one.” The location down McNeil at Parmer is vastly better and only a few extra minutes away. This store consistently has fewer options, weak meat and seafood departments, and an overall noticeably lower standard than every other HEB I’ve been to. Two days ago, my wife bought two packs of bone-in pork steaks that were on a normal weekly sale, not clearance or marked down old inventory. About two hours later, I opened one pack to throw them on the grill and was immediately hit with an intense rotten smell. I know vacuum-sealed meat can sometimes have a temporary sulfur/gas smell, so I gave it a minute. Nope. Completely spoiled. Unfortunately, one pack had already partially made it onto the grill before we realized it and had to be trashed immediately. I kept the second unopened pack with the barcode and brought it back because customer service was already closed. I explained the situation to the first employee available, Doug. That’s where the experience got ridiculous. First it was “you need the receipt.” Then it was “you need the original card,” even after I explained my wife purchased them and I was only trying to return the unopened pack that still had the packaging and barcode. I was then sent to a checkout lane, went through the whole explanation again, and they eventually called Doug over anyway. At that point, Doug openly implied I was either lying or trying to steal over a $6.56 package of rotten pork chops. Meanwhile, I kept trying to tell them they should probably go check the remaining pork because there was likely a larger spoilage issue. Instead, I was brushed off and eventually told, “We don’t need people telling us how to do our job.” In the end, I got half the refund since the other pack had already been thrown away at home, but honestly the money wasn’t even the point. The point was the meat was spoiled and the response from staff was dismissive, defensive, and accusatory from start to finish. And to be clear, this wasn’t the first issue we’ve had at this location. It was simply the final experience that pushed me to leave a review in hopes of warning others.

  it was good i guess but i, not a native of texas, dont really know my way around an heb, i was sort of lost and unable to find some stuff ngl, there are 800 shampoos to choose from though i guess

  Not sure why Travis is working self checkout if he can't even greet customers or reciprocate their goodbyes. A key part of customer service is "fake it til you make it" and all I heard was genuine disgust in his reply to me. Good selection of products and I've loved every other staff interaction but this one was unexpected.
