From my understanding of business, the more business people do with each other the better “discount/service”is likely to be the outcome. Why should you charge a gratuity fee based upon the customer count? Should it be the other way around? I understand the waiting tables game. The level of service provided to the customer is excellent with equal or exceed the amount of gratuity. However it is the restaurant owner and management that should ensure that the best waitress/waiter is compensated appropriately. The consumer should not be responsible for the poor customer service. gratuity is not a bad thing if the level of service exceeds when a customer party count exceeds that of the qualified waitress/waiter.

Got there with a party of 5 and got sat pretty quickly. However, it took 10 minutes for our server to come greet our table. She then tried to get us to give her our drink order and our food order at the same time. We asked to get our drinks first then put in our food order. She reluctantly agreed. Another 10 or so minutes go by, we finally get our drinks. Another 10 minutes go by, she comes back for our order. She brought our food out quicker than it took her to get our drinks, so that’s a positive. The food was good. Then we didn’t see her again. We all finished and waited around. I finally just told everyone we can go to the front, when she sees us leaving without paying she will find us. Sure enough, as we are walking to the front she asked me if we needed anything else. I said yeah the check? She went to the front, wrote on her pad, and gave the paper to the guy at the front. Nothing itemized, just a number written on the paper. The guy did inform me that included an automatic 20% gratuity tip. I asked him where it stated that and he said on the menu. I told him it was absolutely not earned as we only saw our server 3-4 times. Of course she didn’t give us good service, she knew she was getting tipped either way. Won’t be back.
