It all started with a promise and from there it was built on a vision. Gaetano Gravino was a hairstylist who had found part time work at a doughboy shack in Oakland Beach. This part time work turned into an opportunity that spoke to his entrepreneurial spirit – the same spirit that lives on in his wife and children: Sally, MaryAnn, David, and Guy. When the chance came to lease the establishment, Gaetano and his wife Sally took it. And in 1989, Iggy’s Doughboy and Chowder House was born – coined after a nickname given to him by his son, David. The featured dish at the time was the red chowder – the recipe a family secret created by Sally herself.

The kids ate the hot dog and chicken fingers, the fish sandwich was an average fish sandwich but tasted very fried. The Ne clam chowder neither my wife or I really liked, it tasted very heavily of flour which I assume was used as the thickening agent. Overall the property was nice but it’s a restaurant and with all the option in the northeast for stellar sea food , we will not be back.

Worst seafood I have ever ate sadly. The clam chowder was tasteless. The atmosphere is nice but I did watch the seagulls go after several peoples food. The worker who took our order was talking to herself and I ended up waiting there thinking she was talking to someone. I was mistaken. They give you a tiny container for powdered sugar for 6 pieces. Place is in such a nice location, too bad. Would be nice if they had salt and pepper and basic condiments available without having to wait to speak with someone.

We brought a group of nursing home residents for an outing, and he was so kind and helpful, even assisting with passing out everyone’s orders. After we left, I realized I had accidentally left behind two dozen clam cakes. Billy was kind enough to replace them for us. His kindness and customer service truly went above and beyond. Thank you, Billy!
