I'm a Rewards member and had a disappointing dining experience here. The next day I received an email inviting me to complete a satisfaction survey and telling me to be honest. I took the time to complete the survey but received no reply back--and that was more than two week's ago. That to me is a sign that not only does this restaurant fail to consistently get things right for its customers, but they could care less about this. To me, that merits 1 star. Here are the comments I passed on: "As a Rewards member and having gone to several of the NRG restaurants, I was looking forward to trying Boat House for the first time. My friend and I started off with a calamari appetizer. It was tasty and the lemon garlic aioli added a nice touch, though the rings were a bit chewy and portion size was on the small side for $19. We then each had the fish sandwich. My friend was very pleased with his--looked and tasted great. But the big negative is that my sandwich had a piece of fish in it that was small and very thin--thinner than a pancake. Compared to my friend's, you would have thought that my sandwich came from a different restaurant. It tasted like I was eating a fish cracker rather than a hearty fish sandwich. Although Boat House features a lovely view and the service was fine, the disappointment in my sandwich leaves me not wanting to return and being unable to recommend Boat House to anyone."

Awful experience. Inattentive wait staff left us alone for 10 minutes with no drinks before ever coming to the table. never once gave a refill. Waitress would not take no for an answer when we said we didnt want something and kept pushing us to get stuff we didn't want. The seafood meh. The stuffing for the Lobster is absolutely disgusting which I tried to not order but the waitress kept pushing. When we told her it was our anniversary she used that to try to push desert that we said 3 times we didnt want. The place is very pretty but the food and service leave much to be desired.

After a long walk around Fort Adams, I was looking at downtown Newport for somewhere to eat. Nothing really popped so I extended my search and found the boathouse. I arrived and although there was a wait, I quickly was seated at the bar. The service and staff are so kind. The food is beautiful, well cooked, and very fresh. The cocktails were delicious. I highly recommend making the drive and if you have time to make a reservation to possibly sit outdoors, the views are incredible and I understand why the this restaurant receives such great reviews.

We had such a wonderful experience celebrating our anniversary here! From start to finish, everything was fantastic. Our waitress, Nancy, was absolutely incredible—she was so detail-oriented, friendly, and attentive. She truly went above and beyond to make our evening special!
The food was delicious! The fish and chips, shrimp fritters, and lobster roll were all fantastic. To top it all off, they were so kind to surprise us with dessert on the house for our anniversary. It was such a thoughtful touch and made our night even more special. ❤️
Next time we’re in town, we will definitely be back! Highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for great food, views, and wonderful service. We couldn’t have asked for a better anniversary dinner! 🥂❤️

We had a small mix-up with our reservation, but Carlos, the manager, completely turned the situation around and made our anniversary dinner feel special.
From the moment we arrived, Carlos greeted us at the door, apologized for the mistake, and told us he had been waiting for us. He personally walked us to our table and assured us he was going to make it up to us. That meant a lot, especially since we were celebrating our anniversary.
Kristen was our server and she was awesome! She was friendly, attentive, and checked on us at all the right times without ever making us feel rushed. Carlos also took care of our first round of drinks and appetizers, which we really appreciated.
We started with the crab cakes and onion dip, and both were great. For dinner, we ordered the pan-roasted chicken and the salmon with lemon sauce. Both dishes were delicious!
Overall, the food was great, the service was excellent, and Carlos and Kristen really made sure we had a great experience. What could have started the night off on the wrong foot ended up being a really nice anniversary dinner. We would definitely come back to Boat House!
