It all started with a promise and from there it was built on a vision. Gaetano Gravino was a hairstylist who had found part time work at a doughboy shack in Oakland Beach. This part time work turned into an opportunity that spoke to his entrepreneurial spirit – the same spirit that lives on in his wife and children: Sally, MaryAnn, David, and Guy. When the chance came to lease the establishment, Gaetano and his wife Sally took it. And in 1989, Iggy’s Doughboy and Chowder House was born – coined after a nickname given to him by his son, David. The featured dish at the time was the red chowder – the recipe a family secret created by Sally herself.

- BOBryan Olson1 day ago3.0I had the chowder and clam cakes. Chowder was a bit bland and seemed either frozen or from a can. Being 2 minutes from the ocean I was expecting more clams in both the chowder and clam cake. I will give 3 stars because both items and a drink cost only like 10 bucks. It's a fine stop for passable cheap food just keep expectations low.

Quality control can be an issue from time to time, like this time. Clam cakes were good (it was a good batch). Counter help was friendly. Outdoor area was clean.

I didn’t think this could be messed up but they pre scoop (or I think soft serve) the ice cream in a plastic cup so it freezes solid on the bottom. Then they hand you a plastic spoon and a root beer. It’s impossible to break up with the flimsy plastic spoon. Fast and super nice service though…
