Where to start... Growing up in an Italian household, my grandmother being only a 2nd generation Italian American, I've eaten my fair share of Italian food.
This wasn't it. The appetizers, a coal fired margarita pizza. Undercooked. A layer of cheese about 1/8 of an inch thick. Basil leaves(what I assume was Purple Basil) that weren't cooked with the pizza. A charcuterie board with seemed to be prepackaged meats, that were terrible. A handful of olives and about 2lbs of cheese.
Dinner... Veal parm and short ribs served over polenta...A gravy that was sweet... Italian red sauce is NOT sweet. The veal was ok. The short ribs were good. The polenta.. not so much. Oh, did I mention tap water? Yes, the smell of chlorine was disgusting. You charge a hefty amount for dinner, and you serve tap water?
A party of so many automatically includes the gratuity. So as a waiter/waitress, if you know you're getting 20%, no matter how terrible the service is, makes the server not care. And our server didn't, in the least bit. If we asked for something, we had to ask twice. The salmon, one plain and one blackened... both overcooked. The eggplant ravioli was amazing. That was about it.
We were celebrating a milestone birthday for someone in my family and to honor my grandmother, we grabbed the birthday boys favorite cake she used to make. You know what Cucina Rustica did?? Charged us $3.00 per person to slice and serve the cake. Even that was a failure. How you mess up cutting even pieces of cake, is beyond me.
So I, like anyone else that isn't homeless, go out to a nice restaurant, I dress accordingly. As do 99.999999% of the patrons. Well in comes some guy in his.. 30's?? In a sweatsuit. Pants down around his bottom. A winter cap on pulled down over his eyebrows. Who in the heck goes to a 4 star restaurant dressed like that?!?! It was the owner. Lol The owner shows up like he just left a party at Puffs. The bill was over $500 plus tip. On top of all that, it took over 15mins to go from getting our check to the waitress to come and bring us the receipt.
This is Rhode Island. There are literally hundreds of Italian restaurants in this state and in my opinion, 90%+ are better than this place. This is one you 100% should avoid at all costs.
If the owner is reading this, get it together.
