- KPKaren P6 days ago5.0Whenever we are at a doctors appointment that brings us to this part of the city. Ritter‘s diner asked to be part of the experience. As soon as you step in the door, you know you’ve arrived at a home like atmosphere where the customer is important. The staff is so busy but never acts rude and gives you the best service ever. I wish I knew what our server’s name was as I got up to go to the ladies room, and my husband took care of the check. We always tip a person like this at this type of an establishment very well. We understand what a struggle it is in this day and age and this is not an easy job. Everything was delicious from the fried green tomatoes to the grits, yes grits you can’t find grits in Pittsburgh that easily, to the delicious breakfast.

However, during my latest visit, a server (middle-aged black-haired woman) kept me waiting for a long time. When I finally paid, she rudely and publicly questioned me about not tipping before—only to later realize she had mistaken me for someone else. She did apologize, but the experience was deeply upsetting and humiliating. First, she has served me several times, and I’ve always left a generous tip—it’s just my habit—yet she doesn’t even recognize me (or even worse— racist?). Second, she shouldn’t be publicly calling out any customer like that; it’s a matter of basic courtesy. I was honestly shocked and deeply hurted. It used to be one of my favorite diners— not anymore. I received the rudest accuse ever. Please do not make assumptions or direct negativity toward customers without knowing the facts. Please try to be kind. What you say can hit harder than you think.
