  My elderly mother recently moved into an apartment near this store, and I have visited the store numerous times since then. On many of those visits, I have noticed what appears to be a pattern of non-white customers being singled out and closely monitored at the self-checkout registers. For example, I have observed situations where several checkout registers were occupied by white customers along with one non-white customer. Despite multiple customers being present, the employee would stand directly behind or very close to the non-white customer and watch them closely as each individual item was scanned. This behavior has happened on multiple occasions and has made me uncomfortable because it appears that certain customers are being treated as though they are more likely to steal simply because of their appearance. On one occasion, after I personally felt that I had been profiled while using the self-checkout, I went to the lottery machine. When I returned, I observed the same employee closely watching a young non-white man who was purchasing flowers. There were other customers using the self-checkout registers, but her attention appeared to be focused almost entirely on him. I asked her, “With all of the registers being used, why are you only watching him?” She responded, “What’s your point?” I explained that my point was that she appeared to have her eyes focused on only one person, as if he had come into the store intending to steal a bouquet of flowers. I told her that she had stood approximately three feet behind me earlier, watching me as though I had come into the store to steal a package of mouse traps. I explained that if she is responsible for monitoring the self-checkout area, she should be paying attention to everyone rather than focusing on one particular customer. I also pointed out that while she is closely watching one customer, another person could potentially be stealing something elsewhere in the store. On another occasion, I went to the customer service desk to cash a $50 winning lottery ticket. The employee told me that she did not have any money to pay the ticket. What concerned me was that she said this without even asking how much the ticket was worth. The amount of the ticket should at least have been determined before telling me that the store could not pay it. I have previously used ShopRite’s customer service to cash lottery tickets and understand that stores of this size are capable of paying substantial lottery winnings after completing the required claim process. Therefore, I find it difficult to understand how a store of this size could be unable or unwilling to pay a $50 winning lottery ticket. Taken together, these experiences have left me very concerned about the way customers are being treated at this location. I believe these concerns deserve to be taken seriously and investigated, particularly the repeated instances in which I have observed non-white customers being singled out and closely monitored while other customers are not treated the same way.

  I went there today to change my daughter coins into cash and the coins machine took my coins and it didn’t work and when I asked one of the customers service people to fix it a new boy and another girl came and he didn’t know what to do and ahead helped him but she was so rude to me talking badly and shaking her head like she doesn’t like me asking her if this machine going to work or we can use another one then she said it fixed but when we tried again it didn’t and when I asked the boy to help me again she came and treated us very rude I asked her why she is talking to me like that and she has to behave and watch how she treats me she left and cursed me in front of my kids I went to the one who is responsible ( not the manager because he is not there ) and he said he can’t do anything about these kids working and he will talk to the manager about it ! All I can say I only find this act of racism from the girl because she was nice to other customers and laughing with them in front of me . I didn’t like that and I will not shop from that store again the manager has to make sure that his employees are polite and has a good manners and educated also not racist.

  Acme has become my least favorite place to shop. I can't stand that u have to scan a recipe to leave self ck out .

  Full of rude staff Very disappointing experience. I politely asked the bakery employee if she could write “Happy Birthday” on a cake with plenty of space, but she responded rudely and said they only write on cakes from a different display. What’s frustrating is that just three months ago, another employee wrote on a similar cake for me without any issue. The service was unfriendly, unprofessional, and inconsistent.
