This is the worst store of all the acme's within a 10 mi radius. From the unprofessional staff @ customer service I observe in the afternoons - usually on their phones and talking to one another before waiting on customers to order delivery issues because of in-store incompetence. NOT the delivery drivers. I find this the worst location of all.

I’m so sick of the surveillance.
I absolutely love the pharmacy. It is easily the best pharmacy I’ve ever dealt with, but in the last few months, they put so much securities stuff in there. It’s like shopping at a prison, and I pretty much only go there for the pharmacy.

Shopping at Acme is a bad habit. It's big and takes up a ton of valuable real estate on our main street, it's not actually all that affordable, and there isn't really anything special or good about the products. Overall, it's probably bad for the neighborhood, since we have so many other grocery store options (including another Acme less than a mile away!)
What it is though is convenient. It has a giant parking lot, it opens early and closes late, and it'll have probably ~90-95% of what you'd need on any grocery store trip. It's not good, but it's a consistent B- and it makes things easy.
(A quick aside before I get to the rant part to say that the people who work there are great and I like the pharmacy a lot - high marks for them).
However - it has flirted for years with incredibly annoying security measures. It had those annoying Aldi carts where you have to remember to bring a quarter to check it in and out (which they did get rid of, to be fair). The worst thing though I ran into on my most recent trip. After checking out, I go to leave but I was asked to provide a receipt to a (very nice) check out clerk. They then scanned it, which opened a newly installed gate for me to leave. Like we're at the airport and I need to put my bananas and chicken nuggets through TSA. Like the whole store is in one of those awful Target/CVS lockboxes. It just sucks.
I know this isn't the literal worst thing in the world, but it really makes the whole "convenience" thing seem much less worth it. It's a sign of a business that thinks of its customers as a frustrating nuisance and its employees as extraction pawns, dedicated to removing cash from wallets for as lot cost to company as possible. If either (customers or employees) can be removed without significantly reducing profits, Acme will do that as quickly as possible.
I'm not going to go back out of spite. I'm going to find a different pharmacist and go to one of the other half dozen places in the surrounding 2-3 miles. We have lots of other grocery stores who don't have this nonsense. Do you know how they keep people from stealing? They hire checkout clerks! As in - they PAY people rather than throwing money at machines and irritating security.
Your mileage may vary on this kind of thing. It's not actually that big of an inconvenience. For me, it's one too many dehumanizing steps over the edge.

It’s a hit or miss with items and not the largest selection of options but the biggest disappointment is that you can’t get certain BASIC meat cuts from the butchers.

This ACME is so disappointing. Specifically, the deli. How is it that on a daily basis, the deli which is supposed to be open until 8pm, closes at 7:00. The daily excuse from the deli person and the manager: "The deli had only one employee working and we had to close early." Please, just stop! Do better. I will go to Giant while ACME tries to do better.
