As the owner of a family-owned restaurant myself (La Choza on Martha’s Vineyard), I don’t hand out glowing food reviews lightly. Working in this industry gives you pretty high standards when it comes to quality, consistency, and value. That’s exactly why I felt like I had to share how incredible our experience was at Main Street Meats.
My husband and I were taking a rare break from running our restaurant and happened to stop in Hawley this past Sunday. We ordered takeout online, and the entire process was effortless. Ordering was simple, pickup was quick, and everything was packaged perfectly.
We ordered the half rack of spare ribs, pulled pork sandwich, burnt brisket ends, baked beans, mac & cheese, cornbread, and street corn. Every single item exceeded our expectations.
The portions were unbelievably generous—so much so that we had enough leftovers to bring home. The meats were perfectly seasoned, incredibly juicy, and some of the best barbecue I’ve had in a very long time. The sides weren’t just afterthoughts either. Each one had its own unique flavor that complemented the barbecue perfectly.
One thing you absolutely shouldn’t skip is the complimentary pickles and pickled onions. I piled them onto the pulled pork with their house-made sauce, took one bite… and I literally did a little happy dance. It was that good. The combination of smoky pork, tangy pickles, pickled onions, and that incredible sauce was unforgettable.
The ribs were fall-off-the-bone tender, the burnt ends were packed with rich smoky flavor, and every bite made it obvious that they genuinely care about what they’re serving.
As someone who spends every day slow-cooking meats, making fresh sauces and salsas from scratch, and striving to provide high-quality, affordable food to our own customers, I have a tremendous appreciation for restaurants that put this much care into their craft. Main Street Meats is one of those places.
Whether you’re local, vacationing in the area, or simply passing through Hawley, do yourself a favor and stop here. It’s absolutely worth it.
Needless to say, I’ll be talking about this barbecue for a long time—and I can’t wait to come back.
