I don’t think I’ve ever left a negative review before, but my experience at this location recently was really concerning. I will preface with the fact that I have been a loyal GIANT customer for decades. I went with my toddler after a very busy day, and had a cart full of groceries. I was disappointed that there were not any checkout lanes open with actual employees—only self checkout in two belt lanes and the smaller “corral”. It was some time between 8 and 9 pm on a Thursday, so not extremely late. Doing self checkout is already among my least favorite things, but doing so with a very busy toddler is rough to say the least. While checking out and juggling my child, I scanned two identical items, about $1.99/item. The first scanned fine, but code on the second was slightly deformed. I’m guessing it didn’t properly scan, because when I put it in the bag, an “alarm” immediately went off and I was shown a video of myself on the screen from overhead putting them item in the bag, with the item highlighted. I can’t express how embarrassing and frustrating this was, particularly because it was 100% avoidable if I had an actual human being to check me out. Two separate times the associate from the self checkout corral had to come off of her station and correct the issue. My biggest concern is not the mild inconvenience of having to wait, but the overall principle of the these new norms being forced on customers. I have nothing against technology or loss prevention tactics—however, at what point do we completely depersonalize the shopping experience to the point that it is less efficient and even degrading? I’m sure someone in corporate is crunching numbers about money saved on not paying an additional cashier, money saved by AI-enabled loss prevention cameras, etc. But ask yourselves as a company: at what point does the depersonalization or automation go too far? When a tired parent who has no options but to wrestle with the self-checkout and is shown a “security” video of myself mis-scanning an item? There is still value in having just an iota of human connection, of customer service, of personalization. Please, I’m asking that in a world that is pumping up volume, Instacarting, boosting margins, cutting back everything so bare bones to maximize profit, etc., reconsider the direction your stores are going. Grow, change, optimize—do whatever you have to do. But -neighborhood- grocery stores are important places. I think about seniors whose only regular interaction with people is their weekly trip to a grocery store. Don’t automate to the point that you’ve lost that human connection. We still value this as customers.

Plenty of everything that they advertise on sale. However, you need to check your receipt because they don't always apply every coupon. Good selection of products not the cheapest store. But you can always find a deal, I always look for the markdown items in the meat and prepared food section
