  Disrespectful staff—it’s not about 30 cents, it’s about basic manners I’ve been coming to this Sunset Mall location for years, and the customer service has hit a new low. A few years ago, the state bag tax started, but the managers here have always been great—whenever they've rung me up, they've told me not to worry about the dime, so I never got into the habit of adding it at self-checkout. It's 30 cents. It's not a big deal, and I have no problem paying it—it is entirely about how poorly it was handled. Today, I went through self-checkout, and the older blonde lady working the stations was clearly hovering and looking for a problem. Before I could even fully step away from the register, she immediately marched over to run a little report on my machine to check up on me. Once she saw I didn't input the bags, she caught an absolute attitude and confronted me. Instead of politely pointing it out, she barked at me: "You need to pay the $0.10 a bag." No "excuse me, sir," no basic manners whatsoever. When I told her I’ve never had to do that here before, she just kept aggressively repeating like a broken record, "It's the law. It's the law. It's the law." When I told her she needs to work on her customer service and could have approached me politely, she just dug her heels in and snapped, "It's the law." That was all she could manage to say. The fact that she ran a report to audit my transaction before even speaking to me shows she was just looking for a power trip. There is a major difference between doing your job and just being flat-out rude to long-time customers. Once again, this Safeway has failed in basic customer service. Save yourself the headache and go to the Safeway up on West Union and 185th instead. It is a much better run store, and the staff there actually know how to talk to people. This location needs to take a page out of their book.

  When I worked grocery, I was told never to accuse a customer of stealing. Now apparently the store just treats you like a criminal with all their cameras and then a machine accuses you of stealing at self check out. A camera right above me showed me a picture of my cart with coke in the bottom THAT I SCANNED with the extention scanner and was like "are you sure you scanned everything?" So rude.

  I parked in the pick up lane. There were 5/6 spots available - the only other spot that was taken was a customer NOT IN THE CAR, NOT PICKING UP. I needed to pick up my prescription and didnt feel well. A WHITE middle aged lady patrolling the parking lot came up to my window and asked if I was picking up , I told her the truth said no, that I was picking up at the pharmacy. She proceeded to be extremely rude and tell me to leave and find another spot, I explained the man next to me (who was walking up, mind you a WHITE MAN) was also parked there she said she would have said something if she saw him - which then she proceeded to not say anything to him as he loads his groceries in the car after having an attitude with me (a mixed woman). Either don’t hire racist employees or teach them to not discriminate and treat everyone equally.
